Resolutions of confidence in banks and in resumption of all business were passed at a fall citizen's meet ing in Petersburg Wednesday. The tuiru resolution was explained, in re sponse to enquiries, that the . use of certified ' checks would be confined principally., to the merchants of the city, , and that endeavors would be made to furnish" promptly to country people fnnds sufficient to meet the de mands of labor. The Editor of the Fayetteville Gazette, who has just returned from a visit to this city, says' in his last paper. "Frent street bids fair to become, par excellence, the great retail business thoroughfare of Wilming ton The two principal hotels are thereon, and many fine buildings are in process of construction. D. A. Smith, Esq., is erect-' ing a block of handsome stores,, the estab-' lishments of Messrs. French and Weil are very complete and imposing, and the .Bank of New Ilivnover is putting up a .splendid new banking house. . The sidewalks of Wilmington &rexecrable and inexcusable; and, unfortunate as we" are here In this re-' spect, walking id 'Fayetteville is pleasant compared to locomotion there." Organization of a Lodge of Good 'Templars. A Lodge of the Order of Good Templars: was instituted at the Hall of the Friend ship Temple of Honor and Temperance, on Third street, last night, by W. .C. The Good Templars include ladies in their membership, and this is the only Lodge out of the sixty-three in the State that has no lady representatives among its officers. It is expected, however, that , a number of ladies will connect themselves with the Lodge before the commencement of the next regular term in November.
