A novel scene took place at Surry Court hist Monday. The expected contest between Cloud, the retiring Judge, and Wilson the newly elect ed, came off at burry Court last Mon daV. Cloud arrived at the court house and took his seat on the bench about 10 o'clock. . He sent theClerk after the Sheriff, but neither returned Iti the ineautime Cloud held on to his seat, but did na business, as there were no officers present. Judge Cloud persisted that he was still the rightful presiding judge of the cir cuit and f refused to surrender. A lively discussion ensued between the two Judges, each maintaining his right to preside, and each exhibiting his commission. The discussion was cut short by the Sheriff demanding of the Solicitor, as his legal adviser, whom he should recognize. The oo licitor instructed the Sheriff to recog nize Mr. Wilson as Judge. This he did,- and proceeded to inform Mr. Cloud that he must ' vacate nis seat " mm for Mr., Wilson.. , Mr. Cloud .ref used to obey, and had to be, carried from the bench by mam force. He made no physical resistance. Gram ger's residence, on Tuesday night last, as being the property of a colored man by the name of Anthony Holden, a warrant was issued yesterday for the arrest of said Hoi den on suspicion of being the guilty party, Officer Lewis Gordon, of the police force, I was charged with the duty of serving the I warrant, who, after searching for some I time, finally discovered his man on Market street, between 1 and 2 o'clock, and effect ed his capture. He was taken to the Guard House and locked up to await a hearing before the Mayor this morning. Of course be affected great surprise at , his arrest, de nying that he ever knew Capt. G.,. anything about where he lived, or that there was any such man living in the place. M. .' :-vv- - ! New Colored 91 Hilary Company. On Thursday, the 3d inst., G. S. W. Eagles, captain of Company A, Wilming ton Rifle Guards, of this city, formed a new colored military company at Point Caswell, in this county, composed of 56 members. The commissioned, officers are Nathan Henry, Captain; David Beatty, 1st Lieutenant, and William Colvin, 2d Lieu tenant. "- Important to City Tax-Payer.
