Blake, the oldest member of the Conference, at the request of the Bishop, gave his religious experience, which was very happy and moved many to tears and smiles of sympathy and joy. . Blake proceeded to give a -very amusing aecount of his experience of those early years, especially of bis awkwardness in baptizing by immersion ; would raise the subject from the water with head pointing down stream whs satisfied he was not call ed to baptize, but to preach the gospel. It was resolved that H. E. Scott, Super intendent of tbe County Poor House and Hospital be ordered to employ a regular physician at his own expense to attend to the above institutions, and that the said H. E. Scott report at the next regular meeting of the Board the name of the physician so employed. . It was ordered that Messrs. 'Matthes & Br6., Superintendents of the County Work .House, be ordered to employ, at their owp expense, a regular physician to attend to tbe above institution, and report to the next meeting of the Board the name of the phy sician so employed.. ' I; The Treasurer's statement for the month Of November was received' and ordered to be filed. Reported Drowning: Case. On Sunday night, between tbe hours of 10 and 11 o'clock, officers King , and Rouark, of the" police -forced who were in the vicinity, heard some one call for a boat at Messrs. Worth & Worth's wharf, foot of Mulberry street . Booh - thereafter a boat came to the wharf and the .officers heard a man jump in, followed immediately after by a plunge in the river. One. of the po licemen remarked, to the other that some f onerwas in the river, and instantly after ward : cries for hcjp came from the direc tion of the wharf. ; They hastened to the place 'where the cries' were heard and saw a man standing in a boat, nearly under the .bows of the Steamship Pioneer, lying at the end I of Messrs.' Worth & Worth's wharf. As they approached the wharf they heard the struggles of the man in the river and Upon their arrival they sung out to him to hold on to whatever was in "his reach for a moment and they would save him. There Was'no r,eply, but. they hastened their ar rangements, when the man in the boat who proved to be a jSbrwegian, spoke excitedly, in broken English, pointing down ward into the water, giving them Jo. understand that the man had gone down there. The officers made what effort they could to recover the body, but. not succeeding they finally relin quished the attempt, it. being their Jinpres- I 6ion that it had lodged under the steamship. Another attempt to recover it was made yes terday morningbut without suecess. We did not learn tbe name of the unfortunate man, .but bear that he -belonged on board of a Norwegian, barqueritlne lyiBg on the op posite side of the river. The Courier has a clean and -prosperous look. . - Reidsville Enterprise On .Tues day morning last, Wm. Farris,. negro, en tered the house of W. Ts Osborne,- section master on Piedmont Railroad, armed -with a large knife in one hand and a razor in the other, and in the presence of Mr O's. wife and mother broke open the bureau' drawers and carried away -notes, money and jewelry to the amount of $1,000. He came from the neighborhood of Milton, and was arrested in that town On Thursday.
