In its editorial summary of the sit

says:
On the eve of meeting of the Legislature,
oueof the many persons claiming; to be
elected to that body was arrested for felony;
two others declining to accept improperly
awarded certificates of the Returning Board
refuse to git to the capital, and a fourth
is nut promptly on the ground. These things
chaDge the complexion fixed for the Legis
lature by the manipulations of the Return
ing Board, and that body now proposes to
reconvene and count in a sufficient number
of Republicans to rill the seats of the miss
ing claimants., To add to the complica
tions of the situation, the Metropolitan Po
lice Brigade Kellogg's last organized, ad
herents, who bore the brunt of the tight on
the 14lu of September have revolted, be
cause their salaries have not been paid
since August; and Kellogg calls upon the
United States troops, who nave been at, his
disposal so long, to do police duty in their
stead. All this comes of the Administra
tion's persistent encouragement and sup
port of the baseless claims of the carpet
. baggers to office, and we do not see how the
trouble is to cease until the people of Louis

The "Qneen of Traeedy
It is rare indeed that the amusement lov
ing public of Wilmington, the patrons of
histrionic art in its purity and grandeur, is
treated to such an entertainment as will be
given them at the Opera House on Satur

parable Jan auschek will apoear in the new
play entitled "Earl of Essex."
We quote a paragraph or two from a
criticism which we nnd in the uunalo
Courier, of nearly two columns in length
"There was another very large audience

a long chapter to characterize, bo woman

that we should only dare to approach a
consideration of them with our best wits at
our command, and with abundant time in
which to exercise them. It were an easy
matter to deal with them flippantly, but in
commentary upon any of Janauschek's per
formances we can taae no careless liberties
with the pen, for to be in her presence is to
be in a shnae consecrated to art. In the
scene in which she charges Essex with fel
ony and treason, and dashes the baton
which she has wrenched from his hand
against him, she was the infuriated Eliza
beth, and .sublime indeed was her over
whelming rage; but lit remained to the

of her every emotion, i to give color to her
thoughts and to fathom her passion and
despair, the lover of art must do for him

Coroner Hewlett called on us yesterday,
and gave his version of the facts connected
with the death of Grace Watson, at Point
Caswell, the colored woman alluded to in
our las under the head of " Probable Horn

Justice Thompson, of that placei thinking
an inquest should be held at once, appoint
ed Mr. A. Y. iirrell for that purpose-
Coroner Hewlett arrived at , the Point late
on Tuesday and foundJUr. Horrell in the
act of holding the inquest, having examined
the witnesses and Br. George F. Lucas be
ing engaged at the time in examining the
body. Upon Ins arrival Mr. Horrell sur
rendered the entire matter into 'his (Coro

Lucas' examination is found in his .written
evidence, as follows
After thorough and careful examination
of the body of Grace yvatson. I find, no evi
dence of violence or iniury. Un examina
tion of the brain I fund a rupture of a
blood vessel, which in my opinion was suf
ficient and did cause her death; or, in other
words, in my opinion she diedof apoplexy
Based on this opinion of the physician
conducting the examination the jury re
turned a verdict that deceased came to her
death by apoplexy. !
Thus the affair was disposed of for the
