The bill to change the lime of hold ing the elections in this State in 1876 from the first Thursday in August to the first Tuesday after the first Mon day in November, was considered and passed its second reading. Mr. Cant well had a letter read from the Sheriff of New Hanover, asking that a change be made. The steamship Regulator, Capt. Jones, Which arrived at this port yesterday, from New York, reports as follows: Schr. Addie Eyerson was spoken on the 17th instant, at anchpr off Masondoro Inlet, with a signal of distress flying. jCapt. Jones inquired the nature of the trouble and was informed by the Captain that ha was in want of provis ions and water, which the Regulator sup plied. The Addk Ifiyerson had been out forty days from Boston and is bound to this port. Experienced heavy weather, lost sails aud was leaking badly. Bad a Wilmington pilot on board. Capt. Jones proffered to tow the schooner in, But the offer was de clined. , Breaking Windows. Yesterday morni&z sometime betweea 1 rf y o'clock and day, a half brick was hurled at one of the large front windows of the Na tional Hotel, smashing one of the glasses. It is a matter for conjecture whether the missile was directed at some person passing the building at the itime, or at the window itself; but some thibk that the object of as sault was the sign which appears conspicu ously on the glass which was - broken and which announces the fact of the closing of the hotel until further notice. The brick was found near the stairway, about twenty- five or thirty feet fiom the window. Dam age about $30. A Horned Rooster, On board of the ,hrig John Pierce, lying at the wharf, opposite Messrs. DeRosset & Co's. yestesday, we noticed a curiosity in the shape of a rooster with two horns grow ins out of his headl The horns resemble spurs, are quite as ilarge and are in sub stance as hard as the horn of an animal. A friend has handed us a little volume published In the interest of the "Church of the Strangers," containing among other things an accotint of the recent reception by his people of their pastor, Rev. Dr. Deems, who had been absent for some weeks in Florida for the purpose of re cruiting his health. The reception, which was a very enthusiastic one, took place a the chapel, which was profusely and taste fully adorned with floral and evergreen de corations. The ceremonies consisted of a song of welcome by the Sunday school children of the 'church, composed -for the occasion by the superintendent, which, be ing appropriately acknowledged, was fol lowed by an address of welcome on behalf of the congregation byDr. Moran and a beautiful and appropriate response by Dr. Deems. The account concludes: ''After another song by the children, and as soon as a passage could be formed lor the Doc tor's exit he was escorted totfie Sunday school room, and thither the people fol lowed, and the social levee was thronged with a surging, delighted mass of humani ty. This room was also hung with garlands and evergreens,! while vocal and instru mental strains floated upon the air redolent of fragrant flowers, and ere long, intermin gled with the not unwelcome aroma of the brown beverage,: which, like its blonde sis ter, cheers, but not inebriates," etc.. Pursuant to a public call, a preliminary Democratic-Conservative meeting was held at Lillington on Wednesday, March 17th, 1875. . .The object was to take steps to or ganize the party in Pender and to make the new county a success.. Fletcher H.. Bell, Esq., was elected Chairman, and James B Mcpherson, Esq.', was appointed Secretary. The Chairman called upon all true friends of Pender to come to the rescue and, for getting all differences of the past, to unite in making a good county government. On motion, a committee of five were ap pointed to prepare business for the action of the. meeting. : The following gentlemen were -appointed, viz: Dr. S. S. batch well, John H. Murphy, John A,. Jones, W. W. Larkins and VV. L. Riven bark. The committee retired and during their absence a line spirit of conciliation, harmo ny and devotion to the new county was manifested by speeches from various gen tlemen, and by, every indication of the meeting.
