I he morning prayer meetings that were commenced at tbe First Presby terian Church about two weeks ago, have been kept up without intermission since, and are well attended. - All accounts seem to confirm our previous fears that the vegetation of the entire section have been much injured by the recent cold weather.' The 20th of may. c We learn that tbe merchants of Concord have 8igned"an agreement to close their places of business on the 20th of May and observe that day as a holiday, in honor of the Mecklenburg Centennial, an event which points out such a proua page in tne history of our good old State. The Con cord merchants think they can well afford to oav this tribute to our history. Their action looks eminently fitting and proper, and it seems to us that some similar action on the part of the merchants of this city would show a regard for the event and meet with pretty general approval. They might have the fact published a sufficient time be fore the 20th to allow , all those who have business with them to 'make their arrange ments accordingly. 'i Death of an Actor. Davis, Strange, Bellamy and Solicitor Norment appeared for the prosecution and Messrs. Em pie, M. London and Holmes appeared for the de fence. Yesterday was the second day of the trial, the examination of the witnesses for the prosecution having consumed the entire day of Wednesday. The witnesses for the defence were heard yesterday and lasted up to the close of the morning ses- sion. . The afternoon was consumed by the arguments of counsel, and after a charge from the presiding Judge, the case was given into the hands of the jury, who re turned a verdict of Not Guilty," and the defendant. Chas. E. Dibble," was therefore discharged amid considerable evidences of gratification on tbe part of many of the spectators. lie v. 9Ir. J. C. tilden at Greenville. -The Greenville ."S." C. ' Jfetos contains a long an interesting account of the installa tion of Rev. Mr. Hiden, formerly of the 1st Baptist church of this city, as pastor of the Baptist church of that place. The sermon delivered'on that occasion by that gentle man is most favorably commented upon. The greeting of Mr. Hiden in bis new home appears to have been very warm and highly gratifying. Mr. Hiden was called to the pastorate of the Baptist Church in Green ville by unanimous voice. He took the place of Hev. Dr. Furman, who was called to serve other charge. f To Clr Subscriber. -; , Beginning April 1, Mr. Samuel Davis takes charge of the entire city circulation of The Morning Star; and from that date all subscriptions will be payable to him.
