It Is the purpose of the company to present a play upon the theatre boards about the last of the present month. : They have now in preparation the play entitled Robert Emmet with that end in view. Rehear sals lake place several nights in each week. .... ' - WILMINGTON, Athletle Clnb. A movement is on foot, under the auspi ces of the St. George and St. Andrew's So ciety, to organize an athletic club in our city. A meeting has already been held, with that object in view, and a committee to take charge of the organization of such a club appointed. The -idea of the pro-' jectors is to have an unlimited number of members. The membership of the club will not be restricted to the St. George and St Andrew's Society. A large lot will be purchased and enclosed, in which baseball, quoits, cricket and other suitable games will be taken part in. The proposition is also to have a ' reading room under the au spices of the club and for the use of its members. Everything tending towards the physical and mental development of the members will be fostered and encouraged. This is decidedly a move in the right di rection, and thejformation and successful operation of such a club will afford to its members a pleasant and agreeable method of dispelling the monotony of the long summer evenings. Water Tank Bu rated. Yesterday evening a large water tank, situated upon the roof of one of the build ings in Carr's block, on Second street near Market, bursted from the pressure of seve ral hundred gallons of water it contained. The noise and unexpectedness ot a cistern hurrying from the top of a three story house caused considerable excitement -for several blocks around, and persons . gath ered rapidly at the scene of dampness.some on the way there believing it to be a fire, others a light, and others, again, most any- thing that might turn up or jump down. The water on the way down floated a buggy apart. A young man wasm short time previous to the accident engaged in repairing the cistern, and fortunately had left in time to escape the' injuries which would have certainly resulted had he been present when tbe accident occurred. Fire. v'-' The alarm of fire was caused yesterday by smoke coming from the back part Of the Second Baptist Church, situated on Sixth between Church and Castle streets. The alarm did not become general. The Fifth Ward Bucket Company, were promptly on the spot and by , their efforts the flames were soon suppressed and con siderably ; damage prevented. It seems that some mischevious bays had built a fire under tbe pulpit of tbe church and it had probably gotten beyond their control and they ran away. ; The pulpit and floor of the church were much damaged. There is no clue to the youthful depredators. . RIalce Snort Speeches. ' .
