The court for .the investigation of the
above case opened yesterday morning at 10
o'clock in the Superior Court room, Justices
.YanAmringe and Gardner presiding.
There were a number of witnesses to be
examined, besides those who testified on

Tbe defendants Peter Lee and Wm. and
John Fislier, were arraigned,; the former
Wing represented by arsden Bellamy,
Esq., and the two latter by" John London,
Esq. The State was represented by John

: II. Bonnm sworn, testified: I never asked
these Fishers to come to my place and
bunt; Wm. Fisher came to me and asked
me to treat him the , day ' after Mr. Harper
was shot; I refused to bare any converse
lion wjth him; I told him I had not money
enough to treat, and never went into a bar
room with him. '. 0 ;' v
Jamcs Hewlett sworn, testified : - Mr.
Harper and myself were in the market to
gether the same evening he was sbyt; Bo
num'a horse and cart looked 'like those of
Mr. Harper.
Charles Bonum sworn, testified : I live
about a half a mile from Mr." Harper; he
came to my house the night he was shot; I
came up to town with him next morning;
when we came to the spot where he had
been shot, he said "This is the place;' we
got out .and measured the tracks; Peter
lives near the Fishers that done the shoot
ing; the Fishers have been killing Block
around my neighborhood for some time..
D. C. Williams sworn, testified:.! heard
the report of the gun; I went out and found I
that the dog had been killed; I saw" Peter
Lee run into the woods, after it. had been
killed, about thirty yards ahead of me;
both Lee and the Fishers claimed the dog;
I saw the Fishers last winter with the dog;
Wm. Fisher said if any man killed his.dog
he would kill him. he farther said that all
the dogs belonged to him. '-' f ' 5'J-

of Mr. Harper being shot the night after it
was done; I saw the Fishers pass my house
on Friday, near sundown; they both had
euns in their hands: thev spoke to me; I
am sure it was them. . . . '

at noma on Friday when Mr. Harper was
shot; I saw the Fishers pass my bouse go-

We learn from the Pee Dee Courier that
in the case of the killing of Elijah Gibson
by his son Eli Gibson, which took place
some time ago, the full particulars of which
appeared in the Star, the Coroner's jury
agreed upon the following verdict: "That
Elijah Gibson came to his death by a blow
from a wooden rake in the hands of his
son, Eli Gibson." The remains of - the de
ceased were disinterred and a post mortem
examination made at the Coroner's inquest.
The unfortunate young man Eli Gibson
has hot been arrested, and it is believed he
has left the Stale. ? 5

The alarm of fire was heard yesterday
morning at about 3 o'clock; and on investi
gation, was found to be caused from the
burning of a two story dwelling bouse lo
cated on the coiner of Third and Dawson
8lreets- The situation of the house ren-
dered it inaccessible by the heavier ma
chines of the Fire Department Tbe Fifth
Ward Bucket Company were promptly on
the spot and rendered much service in se
curing the safety of the surroundings.' The
house was worth probably three or four
hundred dollars' and "was not insured as far
as we were able to ascertain.
