The merchants of Panama hove agreed to advance to ,tbe Government by way of a loan the amount of the increased contributions imposed by the decree of May 21st. : A revolution is threatened in the State of Magdalena by Col. CapL Harris, of the latter, with his wife and seven children, were drowned. . A Maracaibo letter of June 29, giving an account of the earthquake which caused the destruction of San Jose de Cucuita; says: - - i On the 16th and 17th there had been earthquake shocks, but on the morning of the 18th everything was serene. At half past eleven the earth commenced shaking with great force, and from all sides the people rushed to the streets. -For fifteen SKConds the movement continued, the city moving like a great ship without ballast Instantaneously a cloud of fine dust en shrouded the streets and houses, impeding vision and calling forth cries of horror. These were of short duration, however, as the dust sodn became so thick as to impede respiration. Many who might have been saved from the ruins of fallen ' buildings fell victims to suffocation. Not longer than two minutes did this terrible affair continue. The wind rapidly carried away the dust cloud. The so fearful day was followed by a still more horrible night. The survivors had moved to the suburbs of the city, where encampments were estab lished. Rain .commenced to fall in tor rents, and amid impenetrable darkness the groans of the wounded filled the air, varied unly by sharp detonations proceeding from explosive materials amid the ruins. The coming '-of a new day showed that not more than two thousand remained alive. Be neath the fallen houses lay from 8,000 to 10.000 dead. -,. The letter also reports the destruction at other places, as mentioned in the account of the earthquake by way of Panama.some two weeks ago. f ; . ; t ;,r p CABXE DISPATCHES.
