C, December 29, 1 808, and from the age of ten until the autumn of 1824 was the apprentice of a tailor in Raleigh. In 1826 be set tled at Greenville, Tenn., working at . his trade, lie was elected Alderman in 1828, 1829 and 1830, Mayor in 1831, 1832 and 1833, member of the Iialatare in -1835 "and 18S9,an"d Presidential Elector in 184p.pl He was elected to the State Senate in 1841, and sat in Congress "from 1843 to" 1854.
