Upon the arrest of Henry -Caldcr, under
a warrant issued by the Coroner of Marl
boro county, S. C, he confessed that some
days. before the murder: heretofore alluded
to in our issues! of Tuesday and'Wedncs
day last; he had been employed to marry
Mrs. Quick and then afterwards dispose of
ner,: unless. ne. could aecoy ner on atone
and murder her secretly on the way to the
residence of; the minister; selected 'to per
form the marriage service. The plot being
thus far successful,' and when a little over
half way from the residence of the woman
to that of the minister,' Calder drew a club
from his clothing which he had previously
concealed; and. struck her 4 a 'terrible blow
Across the mouth, .breaking her. jawbone in
two places (as shown by post mortem exami
nation.) ;The murderer then cut her throat
and searched her for the large amount of
money which Charley Quick had told him
she carried about her person, but lie found
only a small amount of currency and silver,
besides numerous papers, among which
was a note against Charles Quick, the ac
complice, for eight hundred dollars, which
was turned over to Quick . as per previous
agreement, . After murdering the woman,
Calder left her for the purpose of getting a
spade with which to bury,-1ier, but felt so

an( threw the book in the water, after
which he left for his homo in the lower
lait of Marion county, S. C. where Quick
weut to meet him and .obtain the note
against him, and where lie was afterwards
taken up and brought to trial, from whence
he was carried to the county jail of Marl
boro county and confined, with his accom
plice, Charles Quick, where they will await
their trail before the county" court "for1 wil-'

As stated before, Charles Quick married
a step-daughter of the murdered lady,' to
whom her property was to descend at her
death, which induced Charles Quick to se
cure her departure from this life. Peter
Calder, a nea? neighbor to the .murdered
ady, had talked over the murder with these
parties before hand and knew their plans.
He, loo, has been arrested,' but 'we know
nothing of the result of his arrest yet.
