Then there Was whispered consultation between the persons outside, lasting some seconds, which ceased as the son-in:law arose and commenced, to search for a weapon, aHd then all was quiet under the window, By. this time the house was aroused. One lady sank on the floor in the corner bf her room, afraid to move or helpless with terror, believing the;. thieves were in the room. Other members of the family were in a great state of excitement and suspense until a thorough search of the bouse and prem ises had been made and developed the fact the thicyes had made off. It appeared that tbey had progressed only so far as to get the way clear for an entrance when they were, discovered, and then hearing only women speak and names of women called they had concluded that none but women were in the house and therefore continued their efforts to effect an entrance, until, finally arrested by hearing a man's name called and preparations made for warlike measures, they saw their mistake and made their escape. There was but little sleep in the house the remainder of the night We learn that this house has been twice robbed and sundry thefts and attempts have also been made , upon the premises during the past few months, but it seems hardly of interest to speak of it, as so many others have had similar experience.
