Wot. X Loader, hailing, we understand, from New York, was in the city yesterday making in quiries in regard to Tkomassen, the VDyna mite Fiend." - During the afternoon, he re ceived a dispatch from New r York stating that a woman, claiming to have been Tbomasseu'a wife, had arrived . there aqd stated that his real name was Alexander Keith, Jr., of Halifax, Nova ScoUa. ; Mr. Loader sought out two gentlemen of this city, who are acquainted In Halifax, and who knew Alexander Keith. , Two pictures of the "fiend," one taken while be was liv ing, and the other after he had. ended his miserable career by shooting himself in the temple, were shown to these gentlemen,1 but neither could positively identify the photo graphs as those of Alexander Keith, though there was some resemblance, while the dej scription of the manners, habits and dispo sition of Keith coincide with that given of the man Thomassen by persons who passed much time in his company in Berlin, Prus sia, and who formed a very agreeable impression of him. .The Alexander Keith referred to was engaged in the brewery bu siness in Halifax during the earlier part of the war, as one of the gentleman alluded to above informs us." His uncle. Hon. Alex. Keith, member of Parliament, was very wealthy, owning whole blocks of fine stores and dwellings in Halifax, and It was with him that Alexander Keith, the younger, was engaged in business. - Some time about 1804 the latter became so strong ly identified with the Southern cause, in furnishing supplies by way of blockade running, &c, that his uncle, fearful that it might result in prejudicing him' with the borne government, - dissolved his business connection with his nephew, after which the latter turned his whole attention! to! the matter of furnishing aid to the Confede racy, and at the same time making . a com fortable thing of it for . himself. The elder Keith, we believe, died about two years ago. ---u r .'"'. ". .Tf:V The Sheriff and 1X1. rrlaanera. .
