At the meeting of the Board of County Treasurer twenty-five per cent, of the proceeds of the State and county capi- tation tox for the year 1875 lo be aPPlied "l.1 C?T Bsbblnc tne Fatber aadSelllns; to tbe Son A Dsrlnar Theft. Mr. Moses D. Motte. of Cape Fear Town- ahip, in this county, met with the misfor tune of having his meat house broken open Gn Tuesday night and robbed of his year's provisions, including a large number of hams, shoulders, &e. He did not discover his loss until Wednesday morning, when, upon investigation, he found that tbe rob ber had not only stolen his meat, which had cost him so much time and trouble.and up ' n which be had relied for subsistence for months to come, but had actually hitched his mule to bis cart to haul it away, thus "adding insult to injury." This, our read ers will admit, was a very cool proceeding on the part of the rogue, to say the least of it : but the coolest part of the transaction, in which the brazen effrontery of the thief was such as almost to entitle it to the appel lation of sublime, remains to be told. Sus pecting that the thief would bring the meat to Wilmington to sell it, Mr. Motte, as soon as he discovered bis loss, started to town to look after his property. Arriving at Little Bridge, near the city limits, he found the mule and cart, where they had evidently been left by the rogue when ! he had proceeded as far on his return as he thought would be safe, and at .which point he probably took to tbe woods. Pushing on to Wilmington, Mr. M. proceeded to the grocery store on the corner of Fifth' and Red Cross streets, kept by his son, when he made the astounding discovery that he (Mr. Motte, Jr.,) had purchased the meat which had been stolen from his father. The younger Motte stated that the man he boueht the meat from was colored, but was not known to him, though he was sure he should recognize him were he to see him again. This is the most daring, successful and "cheekiest" robbery, taken altogether, that we have heard of in a long time. Loan Associations. The Raleigh Hem thus explains tbe de cision of Judge Reade, published in our last issue : "The recent decision of the Su preme Conrt, in the case of D. M. Bule and wife vs. M. B. & Loan Association, from New Hanover, is not important as affects the other associations of the State. This was a demurrer on account of im proper parties to the suit, and the court be low sustained the demurrer. The Supreme Tonrt reversed the demurrer, saying tne joinder of the parties worked no injury. Nothing is decided in the case on its me rits." Bank of New Hanover. At a meeting -of the recently elected Board of Directors of the Bank of New Hanover held yesterday, ; the following officers of the Bank were elected to serve auriDglhe ensuing year: I. B.
