Laurinbnrg will soon have a new Metho dist church, which, when fully completed, will be quite an ornament to the place. The Presbyterians have recently reno vated their church building at this place. Yesterday the 'Squire re ceived a telegram from Goldsboro', which, after paying tbe charges, he opened and was surprised to find that it was from the pauper aforesaid, being -couched in words something like the following: "The Mayor retuses to send me any further. What shall I do r" The 'Squire is still debating as to whether duty requires him to send the amount of the man's fare from Goldsboro' to Weldon. Possibly he may do so. Visitor from the Far West. We would remind our merchants and business men generally that quite a large number of Western merchants will leave Cincinnati for an excursion through Vir ginia and North Carolina on or about the 9th inst. They will probably reach here about the 12th or 15th inst. The object of their trip will be the establishment of busi ness relations between the merchants of this section and the West, and our business men should see to it that they suffer for no lack of information as to the business fa cilities of Wilmington, &c. Let them be warmly received and hospitably treated. Admiral Hobart Pacba A IucKr Blockade Runner. Admiral Hobart Pacha, of the Turkish navy, whose exploit in running by the Rus sian batteries at Galatz, has been mentioned in some of the Washington dispatches, was well known in Wilmington during tbe late war, under the name of Captain Hobart, who commanded tbe Vnrnnia, and was considered one of the most successful blockade runners who made their way into Wilmington and other Southern ports dur ing the great civil struggle. The New Tork Herald gives the following sketch of tbe career of the Admiral ; Admiral Hobart was a captain in the British navy, and took advantage of a leave of absence granted him by the Eng lish government to go into tne Diocxaae running business for Collie & Co. When this matter came to the knowledge of the Lords of the Admiralty, he was suspended from his rank is the British navy. There upon he entered the Turkish service, and, besides being invested with the rank of admiral, was made a pacha by an imperial firman. He next became conspicuous in checking the rebellion in Crete, where his knowledge of the blockade running busi ness was of great service to him in prevent ing the Greeks from furnishing supplies of arms and ammunition to the insurgents. By a subsequent decree in council of the Lords' of the Admiralty, he has been re stored to his rank and number in the Brit ish navy. ' Got Himself Into TroHble. A party from Robeson County was ar raigned before U. 3. Commissioner Cassi dey, yesterday morning, on the charge of attempting to bribe a witness against him in a case for violating the Internal Revenue laws, it being alleged that he forced a ten dollar bill into tbe witness's hand and told him that when he was called before the Grand Jury he must swear to a state ment which he had previously instructed him to make. During the examination, in the opinion of the Commissioner, the fact of a clear case of perjury was developed against the prosecuting witness, whose name is Jack Noble, upon which tbe charge of bribery was dismissed and Noble was ordered to give bond in the sum of $200 for his appearance at the present term of the District Court, to answer to tbe charge of perjury, in default of which he was committed to jail.
