We shall not mention names; but a party of little children, the offspring of a man who died last fall, leav ing them in destitution, were engaged in gathering j blackberries along the fence rows or one or their neighbors, with the hope of eking out their slender means by the sale of the dried fruit. The owner of the field came upon them, and finding their occupation took their baskets from them and threw away the contents, and erufflv ordered them off the premises. Freaks of a Colored Female K.nnatle Dreiced in Bridal Array She la Placed In Confinement.! The irrepressible Phillis Moore, colored, is again in her old quarters at the guard house. She is not there for any actual of fence or violation of law, but she has de generated into a first-class nuisance, and was arrested as such. She is evidently non compos mentis, as some of her actions plain-. ly indicate. When taken up by the police she was arrayed in the most gaudy style, wearing a head-dress with a. substitute for. a veil pendant at the back and hanging down to her shoulders, white cotton gloves on her hands, and ribbons attached to her shoes. She explained the stylishness of her costume by declaring that she was to have been married Tuesday evening to a certain colored barber, and j two of our prominent clergymen had been en gaged to perform the ceremony, but just as the marriago was about to take place the expectant bridegroom fainted from the ef fect of the undue excitement of the occa sion, and had to be borne from the room, whereupon the ceremony was postponed: It is stated that her malady takes a danger ous turn at times, and therefore it is thought best to keep her in confinement. She wil probably be sent to the county hospital for the insane. The Crop In Robeson. A correspondent at Alfordsville P. p., who has lately had occasion to travel through the" greater portion" of - Robeson county, says the crops, especially eotton and corn, are promising well." The former itaple shows a very healthy condition, and the stands generally good. Though, per haps, not quite as large an area has been planted as usual, an average crop, provid ing the season continues propitious, may be expected. There is, however, a much larger acreage of corn planted, and the late rains have wonderfully, improved both. The oats harvested turned out well. Irish potatoes suffered from drought and rot. Peas are in blossom and doing well. Wa termelons are backward and scarce. Apples scarce and of very inferior quality com pared with previous years. Peaches, though plentiful, are immatured and shrivelled. AU the farmers along the line of travel seem, however, hopeful, and for the most part have "laid by" their crops, or are pre paring to do so. j i Sent on for Trial on Three separate ' Ctaarsea. j' William Gordon, a one-armed man, was arraigned before Justice Gardner yesterday morning onjthrce separate charges, one be- : T. mn r fr-m MA10I infT ttlA ing On a peace wtuiaut, uuo wnouu6 officer and his posse sent to arrest him, nd one for assaulting Simon Richardson, one ofthewsse, with a deadly weapon.
