He was in the hands of an ignorant negro doctor as his attending physician, and some of the negroes say that his death was the result of ignorant malpractice. Weldon News: The strength of the iron bridge over the Roanoke at this place was tested and turned over to the R. R. Company last week. The test was made by running three locomotives, coupled to gether, over it at the rate of about twenty miles an hour. Tbe aggregate welgbt of the locomotives was three hundred thou sand pounds. We understand it gave way under this immense weight .only about a quarter of an inch. The company ex pressed themselves as- satisfied with the work. Preparations are being made to add another span to the bridge at once. - Raleigh Observer: The follow ing companies have complied with tbe in surance laws of North Carolina, and have" been licensed to do business in the. There was a short session in the evening, at' the close ' of i which ; the meeting ad journed, having passed the usual vote of thanks. This, in many respects, was, we learn,' the most interesting and profitable meeting of this Presbytery ever held, and the congregation of . the Chesnut Street Presbyterian Church, whoje generous hots pitality was displayed ' in the cheerful man ner in which they opened their homes and entertained the Presbytery,- by we under stand, much encouraged in their efforts to maintain -and - extend - JPresbyterianism among- the colored people of our city. It is a step in the right direction, and we hope others will see the propriety : of following the 'excel lent example! Let all the hedges be trim med, and the lols put io. order durint; the next two weeks, and our beautiful "city of the dead" will present a much lovelier ap pearance than it will if this little matter is neglected. '( t Maypra i onri.- ;' '': Three young colored men, named Cupid Mosely, Lewis Larfcins and Furman Mur ray, who were arrested Thursday ' night on the charge of acting very disorderly in Brooklyn,' had a hearing before tbe Mayor yesterday morning. It appeared from tbe evidence that Mosely and Murray, who bad been drinking, were very noisy and demon strative, and upon being remonstrated with, on the plea that there was a very sick wo man in the neighborhood, they rather in creased than diminished their boisterous- ness, especially Murray, the elder of the three, who " allowed" that he ."paid taxes and would kick up as much h 1 as he pleased." The Mayor very properly or. dered Murray to pay a fine of $10 and costs or be confined in the city prison for ten days, Mosely to pay a fine of $5 or be con fined in the city prison for five days, and Larkina to be confined in the city prison for one day for being in bad company," re- marking that he intended to put a stop to such boisterous conduct on, tbe streets at night, which, as was stated by, one of the witnesses, Officer Geo.
