It is understood in Washington that the Senate Committee that went to New Orleans will report that nei ther Keltoge; nor Spofford were le gally elected to the Senate. Ex-Senator Conover, Florida Stal wart, says the Radicals of his State are not for Grant. He complains that the negroes are not allowed to regis ter. How the lone changes. In one State it is shot-guns, in another false counting, and now it is disfranchise ment by means of registration. But who believes such fellows V The Washington Post's special correspondent writes another long letter from Goldsboro, of the 10th, giving further particulars about the exodus. The deception is keeping up and the movement promises to con tmue. Dispatches from some of the disappointed negroes now in Indiana have been received, but the darkeys will not oredit them, as they believe they are manufactured by the whites. Bishop, tbe pastor being indis posed. The attention of the city author ities is called to a dangerous wash-out on Surry street, between Queen and Wooster. The hole is said to be about four feet deep, in the middle of the street. A lady is re ported to have fallen in there late yesterday afternoon. She was seriously bruised, it not otherwise injured. At a meeting of the business men of Richmond, held a .few days since, the tbsnks of the Chamber of Commerce of tbe city were tendered to Judge George H. Parker, of New York, and Alderman F. W. Foster, of this city, for the valuable infor mation given the business men in connec tion with tbe American Union Telegraph Company and its proposed extension of lines in tbat direction. Irlnaoulc Celebration. Our Masonic friends of St. John's Lodge No. 1, Wilmington Lodge No. 319, and Concord Chapter No. 1, are preparing for tbe celebration of St. John's Day. Mon day, the 26th of December, will be ob served the present year, and, besides marching on the morning of that day from their Lodge room on Market street, known as St. Johu's Hall, to Oakdale Cemetery, where a suitable address will be delivered, and their burial ground dedicated to the Masonic dead, by solemn and impressive qxercises, a public address will be deliv ered at tbe Opera House iu the. evening by F. H. Busbee, Esq., of Raleigh. Mayor' Conn-Special Term A Mr. McNally, who has been engaged for several days past in getting up an ad vertising show card in ibis city, was brought before Mayor Fishblate yesterday afternoon for carrying on bis business without license, as required by law. After a hearing the Mayor gave judgment against him for the payment of license fee and costs, amounting to $21.90. At this Mr. McNally became too demonstrative in his expressions of disgust, and a fine of $20 was entered up against him for contempt of court, making the total amount $41.90, which, after much demurring, was finally paid, and Mr. McNally was released, and departed a wiser if not a happier man. t hermometer Record. As there has been considerable interest manifested in our community as to the sue cess or failure of "the ioe machine, which has already been described and frequently alluded to in our columns, we now take pleasure in stating that, alter overcoming the numerous difficulties that presented themselves, it was tested yesterday and found to be a decided success. The trial was a very short one, consuming only about fifteen . miutea, aarcl tbe result was a pure and clear block of ice fully an inch thick. The machinery was not perfected in all parts until receqtly.and the gentlemen who have labored so faithfully to make tbe invention a success are to be congratulated on the very flattering result tbat attended their first experiment after the desired im provements and additions had been made. There were six interments in Oakdale Cemetery during the week closing yester day, of which three were adults and three children. Two of tbe former were brought here for interment. Bellevue Cemetery reports no interments for the week. Pine Forest (colored) Cemetery reports one interment an adult for the week. Kecovered. The colored man who was taken off a flat and sent to tbe County Poor House, a ew days since, and who was then so ill that he could not give bis name, has since mprovedto such an extent that he was yesterday discharged, at tbe instance of the County Physician.
