Samuel Grice was brought to this city on Saturday last from Clinton, Sampson county, by Deputy U. S. Marshal Klein, and lodged in jail, on the charge of forgery. It appears that some time since Mr. J. McL. Green sent through the mails to Mr. George Grice, of Clinton, a draft on the First Na tional Bink of this city, in payment of an account. The draft failed to reach Mr. Grice, and after waiting two weeks he wrote to Mr. Green asking a settlement. The matter was reported to the Postmaster here and by him to the Postoffice Depart ment, and a special agent was sent out to investigate the matter. It was found that the letter containing the draft reached Clin ton and had been delivered to Samuel Grice, who claimed it, as intended for him, and it is charged that he' endorsed the nsme "George Grice to whom it was made pay able, on the back of the draft.
