We wish we had space for the entire article. It says: "We regret that our convictions of duty and the interest and pride which we feel in tbe welfare of North Carolina induce us to differ with the Governor in this matter. We believe that be has acted with too much baste, considering the importance of the result, and there will not be wanting those who will regard the action with suspicion and who wUl inquire why this haste-to con vene the Legislature to consider the "propo sition of Northern capitalists to buy tbe State's most valuable property in which they-see, millions for themselves, when nothing;, was aver aaKL. about conxeaiag. that honorable body to remedy an oversight Of its officers in failing" to sign the school bill, which left thousands of poor children of the State without the means of acquiring an education. In further justification of bis course the Governor says that ten days will afford ample time for the decision of this question, and, after making a minute calculation, he concludes that the extra session will not cost to ex ceed $13,000. Is the whole thing cut and dried f How does the Governor know but that the members of the Legislature may assemble, conclude to give their constitu ents a little more time to consider the rail road qaestion, lay Mr. Best's proposition on the table, then return to their favorite theme, ''Retrenchment and Reform," and spend twenty days in getting their officers straight on the school bill matter, in estab lishing criminal circuits, in cutting off some of the red tape around the Agricultural De partment. "Variety is ihe spice of life." : There was a smash-up on the Turnpike Friday, about a mile from the city, and the occupants of the vehicle found themselves on tbe opposite side of the causeway. Nobody hurt much. An old colored man by the name of BUI Dabncy was arrested Friday night for being asleep under a house, but was released yesterday morning without fur ther punishment than the night's imprison ment. The only case disposed of by the Mayor yesterday morning was that of Emma Frailer, colored, charged with loud and boisterous cursing and swearing on the public streets, who was ordered to pay a fine of $5 l r tbe offence. The Wilson Advance has this to say: "Col A. Pope, of Wilmington, one of themot active and intelligent railroad men in ue South, spent several days in Wilson this week attending to a case in court, in which the W. & W. R. R. Co. was a party." Greeabackers In Council. The Executive Committee of the Green back party had a meeting at the Court house yesterday, Captain F. M. Wooten in the chair. There was some difficulty in getting a secretary.- One Thomas Allen was first appointed, but when called upon to dis charge the duty, it was found that he didn't know how to write. The choice fi nally fell upon A. A. Dudley, colored, whose education bad not been quite so badly neglected. Captain Wooten resigned the chairman ship of the Executive Committee, and T. M. Gardner, Esq., was elected in bis place. A committee of one from each ward in the city and township in the county was appointed to make arrangements for a mass meeting and ' to reorganize the various Greenback clubs in the county.
