(UNGKBSSIONAL CONTENTION. JFayetteville Examiner. The Convention was called to order by Mr. C. D. Myers, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Third District, at 12 o'clock M., pursuant to notice. On organizing the Convention, Capt. Myers called to tbe chair Mr. J. W. Shackelford, of Onslow, as temporary Chairman, and Messrs. Trios. Strange and W. S. Cook were named as Secretaries. Mr. Shackelford addressed the Con vention, urging the duty of good De mocrats in the coming campaign and in promotion of present harmony, lie was loudly applauded. The Convention was then declared ready for business. By Mr. Cowan, of Columbus: Resolved, That if there be contest ing delegations here they be allowed seats on the floor, but cannot partici pate in the meeting until their claims are properly considered. Adopted. By Mr. Ellis, of Columbus: Resolved, That upon presentation of credentials the committee be al lowed forty minutes to decide, and the Convention be allowed only thirty minutes for debate. Tbe resolution was adopted. Tbe following resolution was also adopted: ; Resolved, That each county shall vote the Gubernatorial vote of 1876, and that tbe two-thirds rale be Adopted according to precedent in nominating various candidates; on oilier questions the majority to pre vail. By Mr. Richardson, of Columbus: Resolved, That the Secretary call tbe roll and the delegations select from each county one to serve on committee of permanent organiza tions, and one to servo on committee for credentials. Finally, on the32d ballot, New Hanover, after casting the vote, changed it, and thitf nominated Mr. J. W. Shackelford; he having received over two-thirds tbe entire vote. On motion, the nomination was made unanimous. There was the wildest enthusiasm. Mr. Shackelford waa 1 called by the crowd and addressed them briefly, thanking the Convention for the honor conterrod on him, and pro mising success in the campaign. Mr. D. H. McLean was declared Elector for this District. The delegates to the Cincinnati Convention were Maj. Chas. M. Sted man and W. F. Howland. Alternate J. I. Macks.
