C, TUESDAY. SEPTEMBER 21. 1880. An Exciting Runaway and Narrow Escape. ; A horse attached to a baggy, the property of Mr. B. F. Mitchell, started to run away yesterday morning, in the neighborhood of Mr. D. A Smith's furniture store, and brought up at the southeast corner of Front and Princess streets, where the buggy came in collision with the iron telegraph pole at that point, bending it nearly double, and throwing both horse and vehicle violently to the ground. Mr. David Mitchell, who was the only occupant of the baggy, which was pretty badly demolished, Bhowed ad mirable presence of mind, and saved him self from injury by grasping the pole and swinging himself out of the wreck to the pavement, when he instantly sprang to the horse's head and stopped his further pro gress. Those who witnessed the runaway thought at first that the frantic beast was bent on dashing down the pavement and the east side of the street, and, as two or three small children were on the sidewalk immediately in front of him, the hearts of the spectators almost stood still with fear for the safety of the little ones, until, by the promptness and presence of mind of Mr. Mitchell, the catastrophe was avoided A great deal of wonder was expressed that Mr M. himself escaped without serious in jury.
