New Mall Facilities. We would call the attention of our busi ness friends and others interested to the fact that the opening of the Cberaw & Salis bury Railroad gives us mail facilities to all points between Wadesboro and Florence, on the line of those roads, several hours in advance of the line via Florence. The mail goes by the C. C. Railway, closing at 5 P. M. The offices particularly benefitted are Paris, Morven and Sneedsboro, N. C, and Cheraw, Cash's, Society Hill, Dove's, Dar lington and Palmetto, S. C. Also, mail goes by the morning train, on the Wil mington, Columbia and Augusta road, as heretofore. Offfor.'a Day's Sport. Our "Chief' selected yesterday as a good time to go gunning, and, as it turned out, it may have heen correctly termed "a fine day for young ducks." However, be that as it may, at last accounts, up to this present writing, he was safely housed in the depot at Rocky Point, where, for lack of better game, he was consoling himself in the doubtful sport of "killing time." In the meantime the patridges are mostly to be congratulated on the state of affairs which prevented the terrible slaughter con- templated. i Visit from a Blaliop. Right Rev. The question of lhe antece dents of the steamship Gu'f Stream has stirred up our "antiquarians" to some ex tent, and, while not posted ourself, we take pleasuro in giving the recollections of others more fortunate in this respect. Writing to ns yesterday, one of these gen tlemen, referring to the Gu'f Stream, or North Carolina, as she was then called. or-j8aya: "She was built for the New York I and Wilmington Steamship Company, the I bulk of the stock in whleh was owned here. She made only one or two trips, when the war came on and she was laid up here and re mained for more than a year, be ing finally sold by the Wilmington and Weldon Railroad Company being the largest stockholder and representing the other owners to Messrs. John Fraser & Co., of Charleston, who loaded her, prin cipally with cotton, and dispatched her through the blockade (then very inefficient) early in 1862, to Liverpool, where she ar rived safely and discharged her cargo. In the fall of 1862 she was loading at Liver pool with an assorted cargo, for Bermuda or Nassau, after which this 'deponent' lost sight of her. She ran the blockade out of this place under the command of Capt. Hammer (or Hammond.)" ELECTION BRTCBNS.
