Maw Hanover vs. laeekleabars;. We would say to our Charlotte contem porary, the Observer, that in fixing the rela tive positions of New Hanover and Meek lanburg, as tax-paying counties, we ttill inaiat that reference was only bad to tne i amount paid over to the State Treasurer by the respective sheriffs, and that New Han over beat Mecklenburg $1,601.25. As to the Obterter't allusion to our failure to quote New Hanover's school tax, we have only to refer it to the issue of the 15th inst., and It will find a detailed statement of New Hanover's State and county taxes. A Cataatonnl. The excitement on Front street yesterday was a huge wild cat killed near Hilton bridge, on the west side of the river, yes terdsy morning, by. John McKoy, the noted colored Nimrod. The Ctiy Democratic Executive Com mittee met last night pursuant to a re quest of a majority of the committee. Present. Mr. F. H. Darby, chairman, Mr. James W. King, secretary, and Messrs. J. W. Perdew, W. J. Mott, W. W. 8haw, J. H. Mallard and R W. Price. The following resolation was offered and adopted: Whereas, Information has reached the Democratic Executive Committee of the city of Wilmington, that a movement is on fnt in ahnlinh the Board of Atldit and Finance of the city of Wilmington, or to have some action tending to hamper or embarrass its iree ana ucresincieu acwon, taken by the present General Assembly, Be it retolved. That it is the sense of the Executive Committee of the Democratic party of Wilmington, that any action on the part of the General Assembly tending to abolish the Board of Audit and Finance, or hamper or embarrass its free and unre stricted action as constituted, under the present law, would be detrimental to the best interests of the tax-payers and the Democratic voters of the city of Wilming ton, and it is the unanimous appeal of this committee that no such action be taken by the General Assembly now in session. -i .sasaaf""S"-atawaM "Trial by JTury.
