for a bearing 'before Justice ' Millis In the
Court Hbuste yesterday mbrning, Sblicltor
Moore appearing to conduct the prosecu
tion. The witnesses Were sworn and ons
ef them was In the act of being examined
by the Magistrate, when Marsden Bellamy,
Bsc-., appeared in Court and announced
his determination lo file an affidavit for the
removal of the case, on the ground that be,
as counsel for the defendant, should have
been notified of the readiness of the Court
to' proceed with the case before it was
opened. The affidavit was prepared and
submitted to the necessary legal processes,
after which Justice Millis staMd tbat the
basking of the case would take place before
one of his brother magistrates at 4 o'clock
in the afternoon, which hour, at the sug
gestion of the defendant's counsel, was sub
sequently changed to 10 o'clock this morn
ing, on account of the absence of material
witnesses.

very good character in the. community, be
ing somewhat noted for his achievements as

Henderson Walker had a hearing before
Mayor Smith yesterday morning on tbe
charge of beating his wife. It seems (hat
cries of murder were heard aad the ceighi
borhood was alarmed during Wednesday
night, which resulted in the arrest of both
Walker and his wife, who were lodged in
the guard house. Walker vaa ordered to
pay a fine of $5, and his wife, who wss
tried on the charge of disorderly conduct,
was ancbndUionalry released.
