LYNCHBUXtoy August UtV$ 'AS M. The "Straight-out Convention reassembled at 1 A. 31.; and organized by tbe selection or J. T. Wilson, colored, Df Worfolk, permanent chairman. He' returned 'thanks for the compliment, and said it was nol expected that there should be perfect unanimity in the party; that there are but two national parties in this State, Republican and Dem ocratic. Tbe Read j asters were made up of the dissatisfied wing of both parties, and they had brought all their means to bear to defeat tbe Republicans in this Convention. The Republicans of Virginia are in no con dition to endorse repudiation, " - -- On the Chair reporting the Convention; ready for business, Mr. Dezsndorf moved thst the Convention ad journ until 3 o'clock, in order that the Coalitionists, who" wished to enter this Convention, might be conferred with, and the two factions be united if pot" sible. ' ' :" " ' ' :J'- ' Arnold opposed any adjournment, say ing the Straight-outs had appointed a com mittee of nine of the beat Republicans in tbe State toconfer with them, and they had returned to the caucus saying they could find no one to confer with. He was opposed to any coalition with Captain Kid. I was io this city, he said, when there was no repudiation in this city. His motto was "owe no man," and not "pay no man, as Geo. Mahone teaches. I would rather vote for John Daniel 'a thousand times than for ballot-box stuff ers. He wanted some assurance that the Co alitionists would act in good fsith. Mr. Dezsndorf rose and said he believed. that every man here was an honest Repub lican, acdeould not be bought out In two hours. Mr. Twisley, of Nansamond, replied, "Peter J. Carter came here a Straight out, aod was bought in two hours." After the committee on Credentials had been appointed, Ross Hamilton took the floor in addressing a committee to invite all delegate to come to the halt He wanted to nav all tha State morally owes aod it only morally owes what it is able to DSV. Hamilton's motion for a committee was csrried, and tbe cbair appointed the com mittee whicb bad been appomtea oy tae caucas. A recess till 3 o'clock was then moved and carried. On reassembling, the order of business wss the report of tbe committee on Creden tisls. Mr. Jorgenson, chairman of the commit tee appointed to confer with the Coalition ists. re ported that be conferred with all o the members of the committee appointed by the Coalitionists and had invited them personally to participate in tne proceeutngs of this Convention. Lester, of Richmond, by request took the stand, amid great applause, and addressed tbe convention. Tbe first remark he made was that he was utterly opposed to read lastment. "There was a time." be Baid "when the people I am identified with had bosses, but tbey. with my assistance, snai. never have a boss again. Garfield said that his sdministration would not countenance a boss, and they have chopped off the bead of Roscoe Conkliog." He charged that tbe Straight-outs bad made too many com promises already; that they bave ap pointed two committees to confer with the Coalitionists, which is proof posi tively thst we are capable of eating dirt. He went on to charge Cameron witb ballot-box stuffing, and aaid that he was tbe prime mover of tbe burning of Gov Kemper in effigy, because ha would not violate the Constitution. Addressing the Convention, he said : "You can vote for him if you wish, but I will vote for Daniel, who, I consider, will make a better Gov ernor. He is an honest man, and, so far as I know, hss not' been guilty of corrup tion, ballot-box stuffing or burning a Gov- ernor in effigy. He spoke about an hour. and denounced Mahooeism, charging that Lewis had four hundred officers under him. aod not one of them a negro, and still be claims to be a friend to the colored man. Tbe Committee on Credentials presented tbeir report, which was adopted. Tbe Convention then adjourned until 7 o'clock Jr. M. Tbe Coalition Convention. The Coalition Convention met at 13 o'clock M., in the Opera House. Joaiah Crump, of Richmond, was elected tempo rary chairman, and P. P. Brooke secretary Both are colored men. A committee of nine was appointed on credentials and directed to report at o'clock, to which hour tbe Convention adjourned. Tbe evening session was slow in sssem bling and was called to order at 220, with only a smsll attendance. Capt. E. W. Early, of Albemarle, moved that a committee of nine be appointed to confer witb tbe committee or tbe Straight oat Convention. D. 5. Lewis opposed tbe motion, on tbe ground that the Straight-outs were bolters. W. W. Douglas favored it. Mitchell, of Alexandria, believed tbe negroes of Virginia to-day would be better off bad they never seen Jorgensen or De- zendorf, but be was willing to allow them both rather than bave a split in tbe Repub lican party. P. J. Carter was in fsvor of the motion. Tbe Convention voted for it almost unanimously, when tbe cbsir sppolnted nine, one from each district, as the com mittee on Compromise. While waiting for. the repoit of the com mittee on Credentials. John O. Popham made a long speech, declaring that there were but five or six Republican debt-pay ers to me state. His speech was bitter and vindictive throughout. Tbe committee on Credentials reported 155 legal delegates in tbe Convention. The report was adopted. Tbe Convention then sdjouined until 7 o'clock P.
