It is made up from reports received from 860 correspondents r-filling in every important cotton growing county in the Smith, is very lull, and seems to give a fairly accu rate view of tho present condition of tne crop. We give tho following nummary : " The condition of the cotton crop in the several Stales,, as compared with i lie crop a year ago, on the basis of our correspondents' replies in the uiiuuiiee, after careful computation on .he basis of yield, is aj follows : In North Carolina and Virgiaia, 25 per cei t. worse than last year; South Carolina, 28 percent, worse; Georgia and Florida, 24 per cent, worse; Ala bama, 16 percent, worse; Mississippi, 26 per cent, worse; Louisiana, 26 per cent, worse; Texas, 34 per cent, worse; Arkansas, 44 per cent, worse, and Tennessee, 43 per. cent, worie. The above was calculated by cono- tie, and points to an average condi lion of the plant of 27 per cent. worse than last year. Which Drevailed to Some extent in thla city on Sftturdayf t0 the efifect lhat a I flreman belonging on the steamer Clinton bad been drowned, proves tobe correct Tbe accident happened on Friday, the steamer being at the time about twenty miles up tbe river en route for Bancerman's Bridge. Deceased, whose name was Henry Lucsb, was sitting on the rail on the for ward part of tbe boat, when he fell asleep, tumbled over into jibe river, striking his head against a flat in his fall, and was niever seen to come to the surface again. He was so stunned by tho blow he received in striking the flat, as is supposed, that he paid no attention to efforts that were made to save him, as he went down with a coil of rone almost in his grasp, which had been I thrown him by the men on the boat. A little boy was sitting by his Bide at the time and gave the alarm, when every possible effort was made to save him, but without avail. Deceased was a resident of Wilmington, where he wss well known and much re spected by the colored people. His body has been recovered by Emanuel Nichols and others, of this city, who went to search for it, and the same parties have made the necessary arrangement for the interment j of the remains, which were in such a Con dition as not to warrant their removal to this city.
