To-morrow a grand fox chase will take place under the auspices of the Wilmington Fox Club, to which the ladies are especially invited. These, latter,, in v carnages, will meet and form in lineon Market, between .Third and Fourth streets,: at half-past o'clock in the afternoon, under the super vision of the President of the. Club ; and the gentlemen, .on horseback, ,;under com mand of the Captain of the Dogs, will assemble at . the same hour on Dock, be tween Front and Second streets. , , The fox, which has been up and fatten ing since Thursday last, and is reported in most excellent condition, will be let loose a little beyond McHhenny's mill pond, southwest of this city, in front of sixteen young beagle hounds, who will then enter upon their first chase, the regular pack being held in reserve, in case of failure on the part of the beagles to perform their part in the sport to the general satisfaction. Tickets will be issued by Mr. J. W. Forshee, the charge being twenty-five cents to all who participate, outside of the Club, except ladies, who will have nothing to pay. The Club is in need of funds, and W is hoped that their friends and well wishers will embrace this opportunity to give them a "lift." If Monday afternoon should not prove a suitable one for the chase, it will be post poned until the first fair day. It is expected that a large number will participate. "He Sad the Sand." Parties walking on Market street about 8 o'clock a few evenings .since, were surprised to see the "urbane and efficient" head clerk of a Market street dry goods store laboring under what casually appeared to be a roll of matting, or carpeting. "She" apparently "hadn't any style" whatever, and the singularity of the spectacle induced quite a number to follow the u. and e. h. c. to obtain an explanation. -. Their curiosity was not gratified, however; and J. Fitzsim mons trudged on with his burden to the eastern limits of the city, corner of Market and 17th streets. Arriving there the party about-faced and retraced their steps to a dry goods store well, not a hundred miles from Heinsberger's, in front of which se veral gentlemen were standing, to one of whom the now thoroughly , tired clerk called out, "I have won the' bet," and so he had. A wager of $5 had been made that J. Fitzsimmons would not carry a full roll, of matting on his shoulder the distance named and back again. 'He had the sand" to try it and "heroically" won, to the de cided chagrin of the loser, who probably felt "quite sick." "The boys" said the proper thing to do was to setumup, and we reckon the proper thing was done. It is said that porus plasters are an excel lent invention and have a wonderfully strengthening effect, but for all this there will be a vacant pew in his church to-day. BXr. John Sneeden't Condition. We are glad to, learn from the attending physician that Mr. John Sneeden, who was so badly injured by the premature dis charge of a cannon on Monday, September 26th, during the memorial services in honor of President Garfield, is rapidly convales cing, and will soon be able to be out. His wounds have nearly entirely healed, his eye-sight is as good as ever it was and his face is perfectly free from scar or blemish as the result of the accident. His left hand, as has been previously stated, was ampu tated a short distance below the elbow, but the right hand did not suffer the mu tilation that was at first supposed. In fact, only the thumb is gone, the four fingers being saved, though the first finger is not in a perfect state. The muscles of the arm may suffer some con traction and thus cause a partial stiffness of the limb, but of this there is no certainty as yet. It will be a source of satisfaction to his friends and the public to know that it is as well with him as it is, and the best of nursing and treatment could have brought him through so nicely. A Belle of Colonial Times. A gentleman of this city picked up on Front street a few day since a receipt, in a remarkably good state of preservation, which read as follows: "Received this 17th April, 1750, from Alice Marsden, the sum of five shillings in full of George Gibbs' acc't. "John Gibbs." And on the back: "Patent to Mrs. Marsden the fourth day of June in the 14th year of the King's reign," &c. George H. was the reigning sovereign over Great Britain and the American Colo nies at that time. Immigration. Rev. T. Charbonnel, who was here some months since in the interest of immigration, in a letter to Mr. Alex. Sprunt, British Vice Consul at this port, from Sherbrooke, Can ada, states that he is doing what he can in a quiet way for the cause he has so much at heart, and thinks the fruit of his labors will hereafter be manifest if he meets with the proper cooperation on the part of our people. m m m A Fisherman's Strange Luclc. A son of Mr. Winner, the jeweller, was fishing off the head of Myrtle Grove Sound, a few days ago, when his hook got hitched into something, which proved,, when brought to the surface, to be a batch of human hair, evidently front the head of a woman, and one who was probably drowned from some vessel off the coast. 1 "WINE OF CARDUI" cures irregular, painful, or difficult menstruation.
