Ernest RWilberforce, the third son of the late Bishop of Oxford, now Canon of Winchester and Sub-Almoner to the Queen, has been appointed to the new see of Newcastle. The ill health of Archbishop Perche, of Louisiana, has compelled his retirement to the convent of the Sacred Heart, in St. James parish. His condition is not promising of an early recovery. Bishop Halsey.said to the Con ference of the African Methodist Church : "We have little respect for grammar, but great respect for the gospel. To succeed with us, one must have a loud voice, al most enough to raise the dead. We sing lond and shout, but get true religion." Rev. Charles Betts Galloway is to succeeed Bishop Parker as editor of the New Orleans Christian Advocate. Three editors of that paper have been made bishops. If this fact had been generally known there might have been a scramble for the place. Raleigh Advocate. The Bishop positively declined to do so. Mr. Tennyson, now in his 72d year, is able to read very little, his eyesight being sadly impaired. Vanderbilt and seven married children will soon be living on Fifth avenue, New York, in houses costing nearly eight millions of dollars. Dr. John Brown, of Bedford, England, now travelling in this country, is a successor to John Bunyan, author of the "Pilgrim's Progress," in his pastorate, and is only the sixth minister that church has had since its organization, 250 years ago. When Cvrus W. Field first went to New York, he found employment in the house of A. T. Stewart & Co. on a salary of $2 a week.
