The New York Tribune says the next U. S. House will be Democratic. To this every patriot must say, God -peed the day. The Democrats of the Sixth Mary land District have nominated Judge Montgomery Ulair for the U. S. House. "Mr. Thurlow Weed was well enough to sit up this afternoon and listen to the de tails of the Ohio election. Soon afterwards he relapsed into a sound asleep." Ex- That Ohio news was enough to put any Radical to sleep. It is a wonder it did not kill the ancient Thurlow. ilu! perhaps he is used to it. Suppose the traditional male cow had a'tail after the manner of the fomet; say, the small matter of fifty millions of miles in length? What sort of chance would the flies stand ? Why, no more than a " Liberal " stands of being elected to a Judge ship in North Carolina. Mr. Hugh F. Murray, of Wilson, announces himself as an Independent Democratic candidate for the Legis lature from that county. He is op posed to the present system of coun ty government. He was a Democratic candidate for the Judgeship against Judge McKoy and was beaten. Mr. M array is a man of talents and of character, but we hope he will be beaten badly. Mr. Willis Jenkins, of Granville, has accepted the Mongrel nomination for Solicitor in that Judicial Dis trict. He is an old time Democrat, and we thought was made of better stuff than to go wandering after Had ical patronage. We witnessed a fight in the Oxford court house between him and Edwards some ten or twelve years ago, and all because, if we re member correctly, Jenkins accused Edwards of "conoodling" with the Radicals trying to get a United States Judgeship. If in error we will correct it. And now both Ed wards and Jenkins are Radical can didates for office. "An ounce of civet, good apothecary!" Nine gain in Representatives in Ohio will do. In the third division of the First Ward, up to last evening, 109 had regis tered, of which 11 were whites. Charlie Price, the Liberal, will argue from a Radical stand-(point) at the old market house site Monday night. There was a false alarm of fire yesterday afternoon, proceeding from the neighborhood of Sixth and Swann streets. The Register of Deeds issued six marriage licenses during the past week, of which three were for white and three for colored couples. The hour for evening prayer for St. Paul's Episcopal church is changed to day from the afternoon (summer arrange ment) to 7 P. M. Through the efforts of the man agement here there will be no extra charge for reserved seats for the performance at the Opera House to-morrow night. In the Fifth Ward the registra tion up to yesterday evening stood as fol lows : First Division, 56 whites, 157 colored ; Second Division, 13 whites, 159 colored. Rev. J. W. This gentleman is recognized as one of the finest actors of the day, and in the larger cities of the countrv is the lation. As leading man of the principal companies playing in all Of the larger cities Mr. O'Neill has won for himself a most eh viable reputation and position, and on his tour through the South he has the eyes of the public and press upon him and their best wishes for his success, and a hope that his genius will be properly appreciated by the generous amusement public of this sec tion. We have no doubt that our people will give him a welcome that will leave no room for doubt as to their feelings and ap preciation of his talent, which comes to us so highly recommended. To-morrow night he appears at the Opera House, supported by a full company, and presenting '"A Celebrated Case." This play is by the author of "The Two Or phans," and with Mr. O'Neill in the title role was one of the greatest successes ever known in New York, running at the Union Sauare Theatre for over ttoo hundred nishta. . and has been Dlaved bv Mr. O'Neill in the i , x , principal cmes oi me country nearly one thousand times in all. The production is by special permission of Mr. A. M. Palmer, manager of the Union Square Theatre, and the O'Neill management promise that it will be pro duced here with all the accessories and care that made it such a famous success when first presented; and as Mr. O'Neill is likely to have a crowded house we advise our peo ple to secure their seats at Dyer's early, jf they want good ones. Iu fact, it is safest that every Democrat should see that his name is properly entered upon the registra tion books. Hibernian Sociable.
