Pctteway, tbe announce ment of whose death Sunday morning caused much surprise and sorrow, was a well known machinist-Tind engineer, and one who was greatly esteemed by all the railroad officials and employes with whom he was in the habit of coming in contact. Ho served his apprenticeship in tbe shops of the Wilmington $; Weldon Railroad Company, and continued to work for the company for a long time after he had fin ished his apprenticeship. Latterly, bow-' ever, he has been in the employ of the Wil mington, Columbia and Augusta Railroad, which is under tbe same general manage ment He was a careful, painstaking en gineer Deceased, who was about 48 years old, leaves a widow and several children to mourn their loss. .The remains were in terred in Oakdale Cemetery on Sunday afternoon with' Masonic honors. Quite a considerable disturbance was raised Sunday morning at the residence of Patrick Flynn, corner of Swann street and HotafTs alley, which attracted a large crowd. Mr. Flynn and his wife were final ly arrested, and yesterday morning tbe case came up before the Mayor, who, after hearing the evidence, discharged the old gentleman and sent .his wife below for twenty days, the testimony going to show tat he was not to blame ia the matter. Peter Walker, a colored youth, was called up to answer to the charge of dis orderly conduct; iu other words abusing and striking another colored boy named Arthur Cutlar, for which be wa required to pay a fine of $5 or be locked up for thirty dsys.
