Mr. Walker's barn and three out-building were burned. The fire orig inated in the barn about four o'clock, and the impreaaion Is that it was of Incendiary origin. Laat night as Pink Hall, col ored, and three other shoemaker were working away ia their shop on Trade street, near the Carolina Central depot, a saddea slop was put to their work by the report of a pistol ia their midst Pink clasped bis leg and called out that he was shot, sod the other shoemaker saw a negro man getting out of tie shop The bullet entered Pink's knee j lint aod inflicted a serious wouod. A young man apparently about 15 or 16 years of age, appeared at the City Hall yesterday evening, and stated that he had run away from his grandfather in Connec ticut, who had treated him badly. That he subsequently got a place on a naval ves sel, but his health got bad and he wasdis-; charged. He has made his way from Richmond to Wilmington and says he wants to get to Florida. The young man has a bad cough, and says he has consump tion. He is of prepossessing appearance and is dressed with neatness, wearing a cap similar to those usually wonrby mariners. Graham's turpentine dis tillery at Reed's Ford was burned about daylight last Tburday morning. The loss amounts to about $200. We are glad to announce that Mr. J. T. Matbis is rapidly recovering from the effects of his recent accident. Christmas day Mr. Mills C. Butler, of Clinton township, went on a visit to his son. Geo. C. Butler. That night he was attacked suddenly and vio lently with asthma, a disease from which be bad been a great sufferer for over fifty years. It was cis custom when taken to seek at once the open air. At home his sitting room opens upon a piaaxa. On this occasion when he felt the attack coming on he forgot that he was away from home and started in a great hurry for the piazza, as be thought Uut there was no piazza and be fell violently upon the around, striking the steps in the fall. lie lingered in great pain nil 3 o'clock Friday morning, the 23th of December, when he died. Dowd and family. and Mis Lola Spencer left last nigbt for Washington city, where they will spend the remainder of the winter. Mr. William Vanderburg. who lives three miles from this city on the line of the Carolina Central Railroad, came to this city yester day in search of a burglar. Mr. Vander burg sold a cow Ust Monday and took the money, amounting to $40, home and put it away in the house. That night some thief entered the house and stole the money and a pistol and escaped. HaraTlns. Tbe funeral of the late L. B. Huggins took place at the First Baptist Church yes terday afternoon, and was very largely at tended. Rev. Dr. Pritchard, pastor of the church, delivered an able discourse, concluding with very affecting remarks touching tbe life and character of the venerable deceased, his years of unswerving devotion to his church and the deep piety which pervaded bis life. The remains were followed to their last resting place in Bellevue Cemetery by a large concourse of mourning relatives and friends, the pall bearers being Messrs. B. F. Mitchell, Alfred Alderman, David Cashwell, Wm. Larkins, Joe. W. Taylor and Jas. W. Col lins. Truly a good man has fallen. Tbe Wllmlncton Light Infantry. The Wilmington Light Infantry drilled Thursday night with forty men in ranks. We are gTad to see so much interest being displayed in the growth and efficiency of this fine company. A colored youth, named Joseph Jones, aged about 14 years, was arrested yesterday morning on the charge of committing an assault with a deadly weapon upon another colored boy named Zachariah Johnson. It seems that the two boys got into a fight in the neighborhood of Twelfth and Market streets, on Thursday afternoon, during the progress of which the Jones boy drew his knife and cut his antagonist pretty severely on the knee. A warrant was subsequently Issued and tbe boy arrested, as already stated. lie was required to give bond in the sum of $50 for his appearance at the next term of the Criminal Court, in default of which he was committed to jail. Loat bis Ta rtrey Some "varmint" made a raid upon the premises of our worthy postmaster, Col. Brink, on Thursday night, stole a large, fat turkey from the coop, and devoured the same in the yard, leaving nothing but the ghastly skeleton of the unlucky fowl to indicate tbe sad fate which had efallen the poor creature. CoL Brink is at a loss to know whether the thief was a dog or some other carnivorous animal prowling about the city at night, seeking what it may devour. Ilantpty Dampty. Alfred F.
