The rery thing that the anxious pa rent is d eairo us that the little innocent should ahuo or abstain from is usually the first to recdre its attention, and they are almost constantly getting Ihemselrcs into trouble of aome sort. We have a eery striking instance in point, and one that shows the importance of constant alertness on the part of mothers and nurses to p re rent serious accident to the little ones. A lady reaiding in the southern section of the city, on Friday of last week, bad her nurse engaged ia scouring the floor of one of her rooms, while see nursed the baby. In the mean time she had told ber soo to go down the street for some purpose, and be had but just departed on the errand when she thought of something further she wanted to say to him. Calling the eerrant from ber work she told ber to hasten to the door and caliber son back, and at the same lime put the infant on the floor and followed the woman, to giro her boy the neceesary direct tool She remained at the door but a few moments and thco returned to the room the had just left, when, to her unmistakable horror, she found that during her absence the child had crawled to the tub of water which the nurse had been using In scouring the floor and bad plunged bead foremost into It, only iu lit tle feet being risible above the surf see. She snatched it from tho "jaws of death" which it had so innocently entered, hurriedly ap plied the res to rati res usual oh such occa sions, and soon had the satisfaction .of see ing her darling once more restored to her. When taken from the water the face and limb Of lb child had assumed purplish. hoe, and a delay of a minute longer would. in all probability have placed it beyond the reach of resuscitation. WE ARE often Interrogated as 'above, and, as often asked, we answer emphatically YES. No mat ter what your business may be, a "ladiolous use of printer's Ink pays, and pays handsomely. But, mina you, tnere are several ways to advertise, viz., one the untruthid or blowing advertisement; one the "obigihau irrtrtrs", or borrowed adver tisement; and the other the TRUTHFUL, HON EST and ORIGINAL advertisement. The use of the former class will never bring success to a dealer, for If a man uses his newspaper to prac tice deoeptlon, he'll be sure to .Ball Sunder the same canvas behind his counter, and the people will emphatically find it out, and his business can never pro Der. The use of the second class. If followed for anv length of time, will meet with Its own merited reward. The merchant who is not original in his advertisement can t be original or tasty in the selections of his styles. Originality in any business is Its main stake and secret of Buocess. A 'Brain Robbeb" can't suc ceed; no matter whether he be in the halls of Congress or behind a counter It's all the same. People appreciate merit. ' " )f you wish suoeess to crown your efforts use Drtnter's ink and energy combined; then couple these with honesty, originality and fair dealing; then with a thorough Knowledge lowledee of your bus! ness you are sure to succeed. The test of the fire-proof quality of Mr. Mott's roofing paint was made on Courthouse avenue last evening, in the presence of a large number of speotators, and the ordeal satisfactorily established all that was claimed for the paint. A small house made of dry pine covered with a thin coat of paint, was placed under a pile of shavings, upon whioh six gallons of kerosene oil were poured and ignited The flames leaped high into the air and burned furiously for forty minutes. Finally the house was raked from debris and drenched with kero sene oil, whioh burned off clean, leaving the wood unsoorched, as any one may see who has the cu riosity to can attne waitnaii uoiej. wnere it is on exhibition to-day. The object of the tent. which on account of the caution of the authori ties was not as severe as usual, was not to prove the impossibility of .destroying the box by fire, but to show that the paint h as effective protec tion against the ordinary accidents which cause fire. This was made so plain to our mind that it has been determined to treat the roof of tie In-DBX-Appsf ii's building to a ooat of it as soon as the house Is remodeled. Another, and in our opinion a more valuable quality of the paint Is its impervlousness to water, making it a sure remedy for leaks in old shingled and tinned roofs. As a test of this two paper boxes were painted on the Inside and keresene oil poured . into one ana water into tne otoer witnout rue slightest effect upon the paper, their contents can also be seen UVbl W A J A.
