" ' - Prom chaos we have " under Democratic rule emeiged into an orderly and compara tively prosperous condition. Under the old Radical rule we had extravagance and corruption by the Legislature, the increase of the State debt, 1 the -squandering of the common school and the University funds, township taxation, negro government in the eastern counties, general distrust, ac companied by a resort to violent remedies for intolerable evils, culminating in Kirk's raid under the usurped authority of a Re publican Governor. After that crowning disgrace North Carolina rose in' her might and shook herself loose from her intolera ble oppressors. ' Now after twelve years of Democratic rule what do we see? The penitentiary, the asylums for white and co lored so far completed as to afford all needed accommodations, the railroad sys tem rapidly extended, the system of educa tion improved and improving, the popula tion ot the State rapidly increasing, publip confidence restored, &c Hickory Press. :The Democrats of every .section cannot pay too much attention to organization. The Wilmington Morning Stab has entered up on the thirteenth year of its existence, and we take this opportunity to congratulate it upon its prosperity and deserved popularity.
