Cot, dot ott In this city - the 4 Indenenrlent mnvn. ment is stronger th place in the State, and four-fifths of the bolters will vote for Cleveland - Th cutive Committee, whose headquarters are here, have been working earnestly for him. It would be a monerate estimate to say that 800 men in New Haven who have always voted the Republican ticket will vote for Cleveland. Special to World. Albany, Oct. 26. -The feeiini? of discouragement among the Republicans of this city is extending, and every day men who have been looked unon as cure and safe to vote" for . the regular nomina tions are announcing themselves as deter mined to vote for Cleveland at the comini? election. Much indignation is cxnreased at the abuse by Republican speakers of leading Independents, and the old Stalwart feeling is cropping out in unexpected quarters. Special to World. - Evansvtlle, Ind., October 26. On my way from Indianapolis yesterday I overtook at Sullivan, Ind.. a part of the Hendricks party which started early this morning on a triumphant march from Terre Haute to Evansville. It is no exaggeration to say that fully 15,000 people were gathered in the open space around the speaker's stand there and they had been sitting and standing for three' long hour, listening first to Gov. Hendricks and then to Gov. Grav. -Special to New York World. New York, Oct. 26. Milton Saylor, who. use to be in Congress from Ohio and was acting Speaker of the House for some time, has lived here for the past three years.. He is a close observer of poli tics and a conservative man. He said to me to day: "The Republicans have eiven up New York. There is no question about that and they are going to make their great effort ; in the two States adjoining New York and in Indiana. They will make no real fight here from now until election."? Nearly every Democrat you meet here echoes this opinion. I haven't met a sin- ' gle one who is faint hearted or doubtful about this btate. The bulk of the betting is upon New York. Special to PhU. Times Mr. Emil D. Neustadt, who acted as marshal of the first division in the business men's parade yesterday, stated, in the headquarters of the Democratic Na tional Committee last night, that he bad a positive assurance that Roscoe Conkling would make his views concerning the Pre sidential election public during the coming week. Business men's meeting in favor of Cleveland and Hendricks is to be held on Saturday under the auspices of the Joint Campaign Club of the Produce and Mari time Exchanges, and Mr. Neustadt declared that ex-Senator Conkling had promised to either address the meeting or write a letter stating his preference as between Grover Cleveland and James G. Blaine. N. T. Time. ' Indianapolis, October 25. At the present time both parties have things very well in hand. The Republican or ganization is not so good as four years ago because of the withdrawal of Dudley, while the Democrats are in infinitely better shape than ever before, so far as effectiveness of organization is concerned. They have union and harmony with Mr. Hendricks on the ticket where they had pnly dissen sions and bitterness with English. Thus the two parties enter the contest in a close State. They are fairly well matched, with the advantages-in favor of the Republicans in organization and with the Democrats in having a strong and popular candidate on the Presidential ticket. Special Correspon dence of Philadelphia Times. Various theories are afloat ex planatory of the abandonment of New York by Gen. Butler. One is that as Mr. Blame himself intended to travel through the southern tier it was considered unwise by the: Blaine managers to send another candidate on the same ticket over the same ground. Another is that the Blaine people themselves have abandoned New York to Cleveland, and that it would be a waste of money to spend apy more on Butler, pre ferring to use it in Massachusetts, about which they ieel some alarm on account oi the extraordinary development of , the 'mugwump" movement. A third theory is that the Blaine people are really short of funds, and. instead of spending any more on Butler, they will husband it for the pur chase j of votes in the large cities in the doubtful States, for the purchase of bulldog pistols and clubs for Deputy Marshals, and for the payment of the deputies themselves. N. T. Times, Oct. 27th. Albany, Oct. 26. It is not claimed by the most sanguine of Blaine's friends that he can-equal Garfield's majori ties in any of the strong Republican dis tricts, and the Democrats, while they con cede to Blaine a majority in certain counties where the Democrats are in a Hopeless mi nority, yet point to valid reasons wnicn show that his majorities must inevitably fall below those of Garfield by from 800 to 1 5C0 The situation differs so materially from that of 1880 that; Cleveland's friends have a right to expect serious inroads upon the Republican vote in an oi me rurai counties. In 1880, where the prohibition COUniieS. XU loov, TYiivio f vote was unknown or else nad no apprecia ble strengin, ii is, uvw a juud iov .ovulations. Take the rapidly developing St. John element, the Cleveland Republi cans and the disaffected Stalwarts, and we have three distinct elements wnicn singly and combined must operate to Blaine's dis Ax,aiarm nil through the State west of Harlem Bridge. Special to If. 7. Herald. nmfiAGo. III.. October 26. Three other negroe men' following close behind, tram pled on the body of the boy in their mad haste before Mr. Robert Gray could jerk the little fellow from under their heels. The boy was taken into Dr. Mc Aden's drug store and an examination showed that be was bruised all over, bis ankle was sprained and his nose probably broken.
