The threatening weather which set mi

severe storm of wind from the northwest,
accompanied by steady rain. '. In 4he midst
of it a flat loaded with cotton, belonging
toTMessrs. Alex. Spxunt & Son, collided;
with the wharf in the neighborhood ot the
compress and was swamped, the bales of
cotton "floating out and: drifting off. Men
were set to work, and, assisted by the
steamer Nycet finally succeeded in recover
ing it all. i
The streets during the afternoon were
pretty badly drenched, and tLe usual Sat
urday marketing was done under difficul

Mr. G. Prigge, representing the Balli-
more Electric Light Company, is here on a
visit and expects to talk electric light to
our citizens. Its advantages are no doubt

Rev. F. W. E. Pe3chau. of St. Paul's
Lutheran church who has been absent for
the past two weeks, has returned home'

"Gus Williams, in 'One of the Finest,'
has the credit of playing to the largest
crowd that was ever in the Grand Opera
House in this city. The surging audience

that the seats were all Isold, was caught
down in front and was unable to make his
way back through the crowd for sometime.,
When he did so the sign "standing room
only' was hung out It was unprecedented
that any one should try to play against

anything, and In last night's work he
showed that he is able i to hold bis own
