BASE BALI Goldaboro v. Seasides. , I The exhibition game or base ball yester- I day between Goldsboro and the Seasides resulted in a score of three to one in favor I of the latter. The. Seasides were in good trim and played well, and are tobe congratulated upon their success. We are unable to give a full account of the game, as our boys in thei hurry to catch the Carolina Central train did not furnish us with the score. Before the game began Mr. Waddell, of the Seasides, while running to catch a ball thrown by another one of the club, came in collision with Mr. Carmichael, and received a severe blow in the eye,! which prevented his taking part in the game. Mr. Boat- vright took his place. Two Schooners Btroften Open and Robbed Recovery of a Part of tne Stolen Articles. i On Sunday night last the small coasting schooner Lillian, trading between here and Shallotte, Brunswick county, and another small schooner, commanded by Capt. Jas. Wells, were breken open and robbed while lying side by side at one of our wharves. From the Lillian was taken a quantity of sugar, bacon, flour, butter, clothing, etc., the property of Capt. B. D. Davis, and from the other vessel a lot of crockery, quilts, other bedding, the vessel's lamp, a fine clock and a number of other articles. On Monday a warrant was issued by J. C. Hill, J. P., for a suspected party, and placed in the hands of an officer, who soon after discovered the suspected individual near the - foot of Ann street with a bag on his shoulder. The recognition was mutual between the two, when a lively race com- menced, which ended in the man dropping the bag, when he succeeded in making good his escape. The ba was secured by the officer and found to contain a number of the stolen articles. Subsequently the officer received information that the re mainder of the goods were concealed in a house near the foot of Chesnut street, when a search was made and the articles were found. Alluding to Charlie Soon, the Chinese convert, who went from Wilmington to Trinity College and thence to Vanderbilt University, the Durham Recorder says he I preached in that place for the second time last Sunday to "a very large and apprecia tive congregation," and continues: "He is a mere lad, but gives promise of usefulness as a minister of the Gospel, and will doubt less accomplish much good among his be nighted race in heathendom.
