The cool wave struck us very pleasantly Wednesday night, but yesterday an easterly wind detracted from its com- fortableness. The wave was heralded by a cyclonish looking cloud. We learn that Mr. Pembroke Jones has purchased the- fine residence of Col. F. W. Kerchner, southeast corner of Front and Nun streets, and will remodel and greatly improve it. ' X . . - - A two story residence is going up on Ann, between Seventh and Eighth streets, and also a neat one story residence on Sixth,-between Orange and Ann streets. The latter is for Mr. W. H. Fleet. The plan of the proposed iron bridge, over the railroad on Fourth street, referred to in yesterday's Stab, was drawn bv Mr. S. H. Morton. It attracted much attention in Yates' show window yesterday. Those Cnleago Glrle. ' The newspapers have had a great deal to say about the average understanding of I Chicaeo femininity, in other words the I girls of that progressive northwestern city have been accorded the widespread reputa tion of being the posseesors of very large feet. Heretofore we have felt that they had been made the innocent victims of a relentless persecution on the part of would- be humorbue paragraph ists. We have changed our opinion. Yesterday we saw a shoe made expressly, for a Chicago lady. and shipped by mistake by the Boston manufacturers to Messrs. Geo. R. French & Sons, of this city, and it was a number nineteen, measuring four and five-eighths inches across the bottom and fourteen and one half inches around the ankle. The Messrs. French have since ascertained that the lady in question is the mother of five daughters, and that the old lady and two of the daughters wear number nineteens; two others of the daughters wear sixteena and the most petite and delicate of the feminine, portion of the family sports a number sixteen. The pair of shoes will be on exhibition at the Messrs. French's for a few days.
