The end sought is to capture tho House and thus tie the hands of the President. They are looking mainly to the South for gains.; The correspondent says: 1 c- ' 'Their policy will be to persuade men of good character who have not been in affiliation with the Republican party to take the field in opposition to regular Dem ocratic i candidates and to give them the Republican support and vote. On the tariff question, and particularly on the question of internal improvements, men of good standing in the South will be invited to stand for Congres3 in opposition to the Democrats. In Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee and in Georgia, candidates will be urged to take the field in behalf of a repeal of the internal revenue laws. As a means of fastening the protective tariff pol icy more firmly the Republicans will be willing to commit themselves to a repeal of the internal revenue laws to an extent suffi cient for their purposes in States and sec tions where that tax bears heavily upon the people." A correspondent writing us from Phoe nix, Brunswick county, on March 26th, says that "on the evening of the 24th inst. the body of a white man was found near the W., C. & A. Railroad a short distance from the seven mile post. The deceased was about 35 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches in height, light hair and beard, and was well dressed. An inquest was held, by T. E. Williams, special Coroner. The ver dict of ttih jury was that the deceased died from no unnatural causes. In his pocket was' found a paper with the name Lewis H. Fales upon it. The paper also stated that deceased had a brother Gilbert D. Fulefe in Medfield, Mass., and requested that a bunch of keys in his pocket should be sent to him. A pocket book, a box of pills and a box of "Rough on Rats," was all that was found on the body , with the exception of the keys referred to. The body was interred by the coroner " Mayor's Court. One case of drunk and down was dis charged, and one case of fdisorderly conduct was sent below for seven days. Oeueront Donation. Each one of these has instantaneous communication at will with any of the others, by the best system of Central Office service known, at an expense of only a few cents per day. There is to some extent an erroneous impres sion that no difference iu the quality of Tele phone service is possible. Subscribers and the public should understand that the word "TELE PHONE" conveys no more positive indication of the kind or quality of SERVICE than the word "coat" does of the kind or quality -of cloth and pattern involved. It Is possible to furnish an arrangement of wires and instruments requiring , muoh less outlay for plant and operatleg ex penses than is provided by this Exchange, but we consider the best system is worth more than any difference in price, and we aim to furnish only the best, viz.: The "Law System" with single wires and perpetual hours. The price of AhiJ system of service in New. York is $210 per year. Our rates are much less, amounting to only a few cents per day. . You cannot afford to be without a Telephone.
