A correspondent writing from' Concord, N. C. in reference to the recent difficulty between Col. Psul B. Means and Mr. John B. Sherrill, editor of the Time newspaper of that place, ssys that the telegraphic ac count ot the affair conveyed a false impres sion, and adds: ' "The facta aa to the difficulty are: Col. Means attacked Mr. 8berrill with a cow hide, which Mr. 8. knocked from bis hand, pushing Col. Means down across a table. And ia this position the combatant were found by friends, who separated them. Carbetu It is with sincere regret that we chroni cle the death of Dr. C. O Corbett, which occurred Tuesday evening. March 15lb, at bis borne la New Hope, Ky. Dr. Corbett was a native of New Hanover county, and waa well known to anU bellum Wilming- tonians. many of whom still remember bim and will bear with sadneas of bis demise. Lie read medicine under Dr. James McRee, and afterwards graduated at tbe University of New York in 1800 ia the class with tbe lste Dr. John DeRo&tet. Immediately upon bis graduation be went to Georgia whither his fsmily bad preceded bim, and thence to Tallahassee. Fla . lo engsge in tbe practice of his profession, but the wsr coming on he entered me Von federate army early in '61 as a pri vate soldier ia the company of the ill fated Maj. John H. Gee. Be was soon mads Chief of Ordnance of the army of Mo bile which position be filled with entire satisfaction At a dining ia Mobile be met the famous Coafederate cavalry leader. Gen. John H. Morgan, who was so pleased with bim that be prevailed on bim to join his command. He resitned the position of Chief ot Ordnance and again took his place la the ranks, but was soon promoted for conspicuous gallantry on tbe field of battle. He rose to the rank of Captain of Artillery and commanded tbe famous "Bull Pups" of Morgan's command. He was captured with bis chief ou the Ohio raid and with o'ber officers Incarcerated in the peniten tiary. He waa a true Coafederate. and General Basil Doke In bis history of "Morgan and his Men," pays bim several very handsome and deserved compliments for skill, devotion and courage. After the war be settled la Kentucky aad devoted himself to tbe practice of his profession. In 1870 he was married to Miss Mattie Ed elon of MantonKy.. a grand-niece of Mr. Jefferson Davis, who survives bim. Dr. Corbett was a Jife-Ionar Democrat, and at the lime of bis death held an appointment under President Cleveland ia the revenae service. Mentally and physically he was highly endowed He was sn assiduous and omnlverou reader, and his alert mind readily eelxed upon and easily appropriated the cream of wbaterer he read.
