We are glad to see from the pa pers and also to hear from gentle men we can trust that Judge Fowle's speeches latterly have been muoh better than they were earlier in the campaign. His first speech here was regarded by cultivated men as poor. His last speech is pronounced decid edly fine eloquent and electrical. This writer has paid Fowle as cordial a tribute as he ever received and he deserved it. Bat oar information is positively conclusive that at Monroe where he first met Dockery he was not equal to the occasion. Bishop Granbery, of Virginia, is to preside. He is one of the most scholarly of the Episcopate and his published sermons are indeed excellent. Col. There will be a Democratic rally to night in the First ward. The meeting will be addressed by C. B. Ay cock, Esq., Elector for the Third District, Eugene S. Martin, Esq., and Col. B. R. Moore. The Young Mens' Democratic Club will escort the speakers to the place where the meeting will be held, on Fourth street between Bladen and Harnett. The ever-staunch and true Democ racy of the First ward will turn out in full force and cordially invite their fellow Democrats in other wards to join them. Chief Marshal Morrison has an nounced the following programme for the parade: All members or the Ulub are re quested to meet at the Club Hall at 7.30 p. mn and the band is requested to meet there at the same hour. The procession will move from the hall at 8 o'clock sharp and march up Front street to The Orton, where the speakers will be received. Thence up Chesnut street to Fourth, and out Fourth to the speakers' stand, between Bladen and Harnett. Register! Rcclstart.! Only five days left for registration, and yet there are hundreds of white voters in the city who have not at tended to this important matter. And it is a fact that there are some persons who do not yet understand that this is an entirely new registration, and that if they do not register now they cannot vote at the approaching elec tion. In the Second Ward, up to the close yesterday, while 315 whites had reg istered, it is estimated that there are 110 who have not registered. In the Third Ward, 338 whites have registered and about seventy-five have yet to register. In the Fourth Ward there are about one hundred and twenty white voters who have not yet registered. Democrats, attend to this important duty at once! Illegally Registering. Qweri Costin, a colored man who registered in the Third Ward, was arrested yesterday. Costin was con victed in Pender some years ago of stealing turpentine and was sent to the penitentiary, where he served his term. He was before the Mayor, who did not conclude the investigation of the case yesterday but the defendant was held for a farther investigation of the facts. Costin says that he was advised by several colored men here to register, and that these same men knew that he was disfranchised. Mayor Fowler will push the matter and will see that all get their foil share of the law and that none is slighted., .
