We respectfully commend once more to the New York Tribune and other bloody-ahirt organs the fact that three colored Republicans in the county of SpottsylFania re cently whipped a colored Democrat a Aa.Wn because ne was going io vot m Democratio ticket. Only a short time ago another colored Democrat in another county had his house burned down and narrowly escaped with his life. This was again the work of colored Republicans. These two Southern outrages ought to be sufficiently gross to attract the at tention and consideration of the bloody-shirt newspapers of the North. The only ofEenoe of these maltreated colored Democrats was that they refused longer to blindly to join their raoe in givtpg political power to a small white minority and public office to the worst wnite ele ment in the State. Richmond ( Va.) State. Dem. Come down strictly to the people in whose behalf the Govern ment interferes. Now select five leading States from the North and South, and put to paper their surplus. It will be -found that for the pro tected class to consume that surplus each man, woman, and child will have to eat each day twenty barrels of flour, masticate three hundred bushels of crn, get down twenty hogs, ten beef cattle, chew a hogs head of tobacoo, and wear forty suits of woollen and cotton goods. The swallowing capacity of a pro tectionist is vast, but I hardly think it would accomplish this. Donn Piatt. OTJK STiTE COSTBtriPOa ARIES. I- I .-!? Dockery's party is mak ing sn effort to have Federal marshal and supervisors appointea ior iuc thisritate. It is reported that . application has been made to Judge Bond, but it is not tnown hnw he wiRconsvaet iv pacu p niicAtinna mmrtw made ten days prior It ii to be hoped tt report is unrorinded, yet it comes from a. sood source- Elections are as free and fair in North Carolina as in any uwuci di in the Union, and the presence of Federal officers at the polls would only serve to ex cite the people. If such a step as this is taken it will be a good thing for the Dem ocratic party in this State. It is an ascer tained fact that this Federal interference at the nolle, is to prevail in Richmond county, the home of Oliver H. Dockery. The com missions of two Federal officers, signed by Judge Dick, have been seen, and it is reasonably sure that other commissions have been signed. This does not speak well for Colonel Dockery. The Methodist " Bpiacopal Church, North, has beenrholding its annual con ference, during past week at Clyde, Hay wood county.-. An. increase of member ship of 1.000 is reported, and also 1,800 Sunday school scholars; and 17 new minis--ters were received into the conference. The conference embraces the whole State of North Carolina, and one -circuit in South Carolina, in which, at" Clifton, the next annual conference WUL be held. Bishop Fitxgerald presided over the conference. Raleigh Recorder; Rev. Wm. Turner, of Salem, baptized nine persons at his last appointment at Hew jrnenasnip. Rev. O. J. Woodson, brother to Mrs. Gov. Jarvis, is a most active and interest ing Baptist preacher, and is doing a great deal of good work in the western part of North Carolina. The sad announce" ment of the death of Rev. W. W. Wells, of Waynesville, reached us on Monday morn ing. Bro. Wells died suddenly of apoplexy on Saturday, October 20th, while attending the session of the Western Baptist Conven tion at Hominy Church. Bro. T. T. Grandy. of N. C, one of the best of men and dearly loved by bis brethren, died Oc tober l 7th. For years Bro. Grandy has been in very feeble health, and death came not unexpected. He was in his 65th year. A good and true man has entered into rest. He was born in Camden county on Febru ary 3, 1824, united with thechurchin 1848,. and was deacon of the Oxford Baptist Church since 1849. STATE CAMPAIGN. Bourne silenced Nichols and Doasey handled old Glorif ul till he had more than enough. Tarboro Southerner. We learn that Col. W. J. Green has been doing effective work in this cam paign; that his speech at King's Mills on Friday was a rrost magnificent and telling. It was an appeal to the voters to be true to the cause. The Colonel commands a large following, and his work in this campaign will be felt FayeUevOU Observer. On last Tuesday Clinton was disgraced by the presence of a fellow who delivered one of the most foul, loathsome, uncanny and disreputable harangues that it has ever been our misfortune to hear. It fell from the venomed lips of none other than Gus Moore, Republican elector for the State at large. Clinton Caucasian. Mr. Simmons made an admira ble speech discussing the issues between the two parties in a calm, dignified manner, and his argument was so plain, simple and direct, that all could understand. He made a most eflective speech and he had it from their own lips that many of our mo6t intel ligent and fair minded, independent and right thinking colored men will vote to keep him in Congress. Davidson's remarks were as direct and pointed, and his arguments as unanswerable as we have heard this cam paign. He dwelt principally on the para mount importance of maintaining Anglo Saxon supremacy in North Carolina and of continuing in power the party that would forever resist the pavment of the special tax bonds by the people of this State. Judge Fowle's speech was eloquent, convincing and pathetic, and it was universally conce ded that improvement upon that speech were well nigh an impossibility, tie neia the undivided attention of the crowd for about two hours and when he closed his beautiful peroration there were not many dry eyes ia that audience.
