The rainfall re ported for other districts was com paratively light. In the Wilmington district, the average rainfall was 4 -100 of an inoh. There was no rain at all at Wadesboro, Charlotte, Raleigh and Goldsboro. The highest maximum temperature reported yes terday was at Cheraw, 90 degrees, and tbe lowest, 81 degrees, at Wil mington. The maximum at other stations in the district was: Golds boro and Florence 80, Newborn, Lumberton, Raleigh, Charlotte and Wadesboro J. Ta. atexato. Only four boats entered for the re gatta of tbe Carolina Yacht Club yes terday. The I'uMi, CapL E. Lati' mer; the Lillian Florence, Capt. H. M. Bowden; the Rota, Capt. W. The formal presentation of the prise took place In the pavilion at the Hammocks, and was made by Mr. Geo. W. Kidder in a pleasant little speech, whleh was happily responded to by Capt. Giles. The day was pleasant; there was a pretty liberal attendance of visitors from the elty, and the race was heartily enjoyed by all present. OOlpewel Mr. H. C. He had a a key to the barber shop, and went there Sunday morning to shave him self and It Is supposed he took ad vantage of the opportunity to rob his employer. atieo (top-too Heea Bala. A gentleman from Brunswick re ports the rice crop above Wilming ton as seriously injured by the re cent rains, whleh have prevented planters from giving their fields 'the last hoeing," as the term goes. The crop below Wilmington, he says, is in much better condition and will give a good yield. The same complaint of too mnch rain comes from South Carolina and Georgia. In the Charleston seotion It is said, "Rioe planters are very un easy about the fate of their crops. Thus far all is safe and the condition of the growing grain Is all that could be desired. The crop is later than usnal, fully two weeks behind. The fields are fall of water and the rivers are uncomfortably fall also. The continued rains have greatly alarmed the planters. Unless the rains soon cease there will almost cer tainly be an overflow of the rivers and a consequent destruction of the rice crops. If the rains discontinue their daily visitations now very soon all immediate danger will be removed, and Booth Carolina will have a better outlook for rice than for many years past. The situation at present is just about this: The orop is doing well, taut the water is almost up to the top of the dams. If it comes over and breaks through the rice is gone. The planter is helpless. He can only wait and pray for dry weather.'1 Prlrn for Truck Reported for the 8tab by G. B. Palmer, commission merchant, 156 Reade street, New York: Nkw York, Aug. 4. The past week has not been a very satisfactory one to the receivers of perishable pro ducts. Rains have been incessant, and fruits and produce of all kinds show effects of same, and are there fore more or less decayed. The re sults on watermelons for the week has bren rather discouraging, and al though prices have been fair, yet af ter the rates, with additional charges, are paid, there seems to be nothing left to the shipper. There seems to be but little encouragement to make further shipments, although prices will no doubt advance this week, as we anticipate a falling off in receipts Sold fancy melons to-day for $18, and from that down, according to quality. There is still some encouragement to ship fancy peaches from the South, as most of tbe near by arrivals are in ferior; Georgia prime, 24 quart crates, $2 50 to $3 50; third bushel crates, 75o to f 1 25. Choice LeLonte pears, $3 to $8 50 per barrel; 75c to $ 1 a crate. Prime North Carolina inuskinelons, 1 a barrel. Fancy grapes are in good demand, and Niagara selling to day from 10 to 14c per lb; Delaware 10 to 13c; choice black grapes 6 to 80, and others 4 to 5c. North Carolina sweet potatoes doing well, and prices range from $2 50 to $3 per barrel. Film WarO Hook ana Ladder Com pany. The membeis of the Fifth Ward Hook and Ladder Company are much elated at the prospect of having a horse to pull their truck the "C. M. Stedman." Their truck house is on Ann street, between Fourth and Fifth, in a thickly settled seotion of the city, where they will no doubt do good service should the occasion arise. The company is composed of excellent material, and accessions to its ranks are being made. Under the new impulse that has been given to it by the Board of Aldermen it is to be reorganized and put on a better work ing basis than ever Vlalac tho atresia. The Mayor was busy yesterday an swering complaints of property own ers and other citizens about the oon dition of the streets. A large force of hands has been engaged and will be put to work to day under the direc tion of Mr. Sholar, the superintend ent of streeta. Washouts are reported in all parts of the oity as a result of the oontinued rains, and a great deal of work is necessary to put streets and sidewalks in good order.
