association.
The Wilmington Homestead and
Loan Association commenced opera
tions on the Uth of August 1886 and
consequently has been running a lit
tie over three years. Three series of
stock have been issued in that time
amounting in all to three thousand
shares A quarterly statement
that was made up a few days since
shows the Institution to be in a most
flourishing condition In tbe first
series, five hundred dollars have been
pawl in instalment, over nine thou
sand io interest, over four hundred in
fine and over three hundred in trans
fer fees, while in the seeond series
the amount of instalments paid in is
one hundred and twenty-five dollars,
over four hundrod being collected for
inter st, two hundred and seventeen
for fines and eighty-three for transfer
fees The third series has only been re
cently opened and therefore tbe in
terest, fines and transfer fees collected
are small. The profits on tbe first se
ries are five dollars and forty-two
cents per share, or nine per cent,
while tbe seoood series shows a profit
up to this time of one dollar and forty
six cents per sbsre, or twelve per cent
It is thought that the Association
will wind up in about three more
years, and the stockholders will have
quite a snug little sum to divide
among themselves.

riAB fibre: bagging.
Tate mill a Croaly Running Day ana
Mnii i to supply ike Demand.
The Aeme Manufacturing Company
have recently sold their patents and
fibre plant at Cronly to the American
Pine Fibre Company of this city, and
the new company have gone to work
I in earnest The demands for the pine
fibre bagging are so great that the
company will put in new machinery
at their mills at Cronly, so
as to largely increase the output.
Orders have been received from
eyery cotton State in the Union,
and the mills are running day and
night to fill them. They already have
enough orders ahead toj keep them
busy till the first of April. The Ma
con Telegraph has a long article on
the excellence oi the pine fibre bag
ging, and says that fifty rolls of it
were brought there recently for the
Messrs. Willingham, leading mer
chants of Macon.
The Telegraph says: It is just the
thing the people have been wanting,
and they are wild over It. The ware
housemen, too, are delighted with it,
and believe in its great adaptability
to the wants of this section. Said Mr.
Calder Willingham, who is one of the
most experienced and capable ware
housemen in Georgia:
"I consider it the equal of jute in
every respect, and believe that it will
take the place of jute It is as dura
ble as it is acceptable, it is cheaper,
and it utilizes our pine forests I am
for it, aud can sell it as easy as jute.
'What about the weights?" asked
tbe reporter.
"I will show you,'' said he. "A
truckman plied the hooks to a roll
aud jerked it on the scales.
"ou see there is a roll containing
tbe same number of yards as a roll of
jute fifty yards. Jt weighs 102 pounds.
A roll of Dixie jute will weigh 68
pounds, and yettliey sell tor the same
money laid down In Macon 9$ cents
per yard.
' The farmer ge'-s in there, does he
not?"
"Well, I should say. On a bale of
cotton at 10 cents, the jute bagging
will bring 80 cents, and the pine straw
$l 02. That's the difference on every
bale."
'Of course the exchange accepts
it?"
"We sent it to them last year. The
truth is, if it was not for the color you
could not tell them apart. It is the
best counterfeit you ever saw. '
A roll of pine st 'aw is exactly like a
roll of jute, only he former is of a
deep red. brick lust color, and is
heavier. The texture is exactly the
same, and except in the partic ulars
mentioned cannoc be distinguished
from tbe jute.
Col. H. E. WMliojham said it was
equal in every respect to the jute.
Tbere was no choice between the
two. He believes it is the thing for
the farmers, and that they will adopt
it.
Two or three farmers standing
around were delighted with it and
anuounced their intention of using it.
Several of the warehouses wanted
to buy some of the bagging but the
Messrs. Willingham would not let it
go. They wanted more.
The bagging was made in North
Carolina. It is probable that a factory
will be built in Macon at an early
day.
Pine fibre bagging is now being
shipped to every cotton growing
State, in these small lots, and from
every point comes approval.
