C, THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 7, 1889. f "Fllk" The MacCollin Opera Company will present Caeeaigna's charming oomic opera "Falka" this evening at the Opera House. "Falka" is one of those sparkling works in three acts, of de lightful ballads, choruses, etc The scene is laid on the continent, in the .German Empire, and the story is one of love. An old governor, the guar dian of a pretty niece and an adven turerlng nephew, seeks to make a match between the latter and a young woman of the nobility. While on his way to the Governor's home the young man is met by brigands. Edwige, the sister of the brigand ohief, falls in love with the hand some young fellow and saves bis life when in danger. Tancred promises to marry her in return, but escapes and is pursued. He hides in a cellar and disguises himself as a waiter at an inn. In the meantime Falka, the Governor's neoie, reaches tbe inn on an elopement tour with her lover. She is pursued by an old monk, the keeper of the oouvent. So as not to be discovered, Falka personates Tancred and is to be wedded to the beautiful A lex in a. The truth is made known through the fact that Arthur, Falka's lover, on being sent back to the convent as the runaway girl, claimed belonging to the other sex. Marriage all around furnishes the olimaz to the play. aasr sne CeorL Appeals from the Sixth district were disposed of on Tuesday as fol lows: State vs Johnson from New Hano ver, argued by the Attorney General for the State.
