C, FRIDAY, DECEMBER 13, 1889. Fir. on Water street. Fire broke oat yesterday morning about 8 o'clock in a lot of baled hay stored on the upper floor of tbe two- story brlok build ing No. 126 North Water street, occupied by Messrs. D. MoEaohern St Co. as a grain and feed store. The Fire Department respond ed promptly to the alarm, and en gines, reels and trucks were soon on the groand and at work; but the fire had spread rapidly, eating its way through the wooden partitions to the upper floors if Nos.128 and 130,ad- joining on the north With hard work, however, the firemen suceeded in getting the flames under control, but the upper part of the building was gutted by the fire and the lower floor was deluged by water which caused considerable damage. Messrs. D. McEachern & Co., who oocupied No. 126, had insurance on stock for $1,000 in the Sun Insurance Co. of London, Eng., with Mr. M. S. Willard. Their stock waa valued at $1,300 to $1,400. Mr. Chas. F Browne, grocer, who oocupied No. 128, had insurance on stock for $L00O in the St. Paul Dire and M arine for $'500, and in the Provi- denoe-Washington, with Messrs. Smith & Boatwright, for $500. Mis stock is estimated at $1,500. B. F. Keith, Jr., & Co., grooers,occu - pied the corner store, No. 130. They had insurance on stock valued at $2,000 to $2, tOO -with Messrs. Smith & Hoatwriirht for $500 in the Hamburg- Bremen, and $1,000 with Messrs. Nor throp. Hodges & Taylor;in the Lone don and Lancashire. The floor above No. 130 was occu pied aa offices by Capt. C. D. Myers and Mr. A. L. DeRoseet, brokers, and Mr. George D. Parsley, Mr. H. McL. Green and Mr. F. Turlington, timber inspectors. They succeeded in remov ing their effects from the building. Part of No. 13'J is used as a ware house by Messrs. Alderman, Flanner & Co., who have insurance on goods stored therein to tbe amount of $1,000, with Messrs. Atkinson & Manning, in the Orient of Hartford.
