Robinson, colored, who went from this city to Arkansas, wri tee from Little Rock to J. O. Nixon, giving a doleful account of the eoodition and prospects of the colored people who emigrated from this section to Arkansas a few months since. He writes as follows; Tell Mr. Jno. Evangelist this is the eouotry for track farming, if he oold like sueb business; but be must bring money if be has none, stay In North Carolina. Also, you can tell all the rest the same. Now let me tell you a few words: In Mississippi, Louisiana and Arkansas people from North Carolina are far ing very bad that came on the emigration movement. Just re member the first crowd from Wilmington they were sold for flee dollars a head by the agent, Williams, and sent to Sunny Sidr, Ark., and put into the woods. One hundred and furty-eight or more of them would oot work for the pay 50 cent per hundred pounds of cotton. Quite a number ran away soon after arrival. Mr. owes, Weet Nicholson, Joe WlUUms and family stayed a week or more. Thoee who remained held a meeting and would not piek cotton a ail Then the gen'leman that bought them tried to com pel them, but they would not, aod so, about 140 or more, taking their things, left. Tben Mr. Martin, the ! gentleman that brought them, sued them and got judgment, and they gave bond by giving up all their things. Then they raised money and aent Mr. Swan to Little Bock to see the Governor or that State. Mr. Swan was sent back to bring all he could find to Little Rock, and he did so. Tbe court will meet lo January. Tell all who want lo oome Weet to pay their way; if tbey don't, hell Are will be their portion. I have not time to tell yon about Mississippi; but tell ail to kep away from there. miissiantwa swns nw. si. Th annual meeting of Wilmington Lodge No. 818, A. F. Murchison, who re cently removed from Cumberland oounty, in this State, to Seattle, Washington, in a letter to a relative in this oity gives an interesting des cription of that country and its won derful development. He says: I am very muoh pleased with this Puget Sound country, and with this oity, which well informed people think will be the metropolis of the Northwest, being situated in Puget Sound, one of the most beautiful bodies of water with its land locked harbors In the world, and which to gether with its branches, has eighteen hundred miles of coast, and being so deep that tbe Greet Eastern could navigate its entire length, Besides, there are a great number of rivers flowing into it, all navigable by steam boats. Tbe banks of the sound being verv high, it is never as rough as i have seen the river at Wilmington, con sequently the little stern wheel river steamboats, some of them that run up the small rivers being no larger than the Black river boats, have no trouble in traversing tbe sound to Seattle or any of tbe otber up-the-sound ports. There are many steam ers on the sound; two regular lines of passenger boats, besides a number of freight steamers and sailing vessels that carry coal and lumber from here to San Francisco; two lines to Alaska, two or three to British Columbia and Portland, Oregon. There re being built three million dollars worth of steamers for the sound trade, while; about fifty steam ers are now running from thie place to the d tie rent points on the sound and rivers, besides those that go to outside ports. The Western Pacific railroad has boaght the road from this place .to lacoma, ana the Missouri Pacific has bought the D. R. A N. road. Both transactions were complet ed within the last week. So, Seattle is now the terminus of both these great trans continental systems of railroad. The Canadian Pacific is now connected wlnb this place by steamers from Victoria, B. C , but it will in a few mouths, be connected with the Seattle, Lake Shore and Eastern road, thus giving us then three through lines to the East. We bave here the finest timber in the world boards often being sawed seven feet wide; have coal, iron and lime in abundance, and some gold and silver mines are being worked. The land is very rich, and a great deal of it is being cleared for farming purposes. People are flocking here from all parts of the world, and from every State in the Union; the South being largely represented. There are eight lawyers here from North Caro lina. I don't know of a better oountry than this for a young man with some money .to Is tart a business, as all dosses of labor get suoh high wges a I eat deal of money is in circulation. ou may go into any store at any time of day and you will find every olerk busy and customers waiting to be served. I haye been told by mer chants that they make good profits. It is thought that there will be 250,000 people here in tore years. Real es tate is increasing in value every day.
