It is said there is a coldness be tween Mr. Harrison and Mr. Quay, which may yet reach the freezing point. Mr. Harrison has become mitfed at the attempted dictation of Quay, and the public parade he makes in his demands. There are several other cases of coolness be tween the Republican magnates. In fact this has been quite a cool spring. 1 VOL. XLVI.-NO. 28. John J. Dille, formerly Secretary of the Indiana Republican State Cen tral Committee, is a candidate for the Governorship of Oklahoma. Dille is the man who was appointed land agent at Guthrie by Mr. Harri son, and who it was shown on an in vestigation by Secretary Noble had connived with his brother and other associates to block off claims before the proclamation opening the terri tory to settlement had been made. Secretary Noble asked for his remo val, but in spite of his request and the proofs of Dille's guilt, the Presi dent paid no attention to the request and Dille stuck. He knew too many campaign secrets to be bounced. A singular case of mistaken identi fication occurred at Pittsburg a few days ago, when a doctor from Johns town recognized the body of a young man who had been killed on a rail road as that of his son. He had given orders for the shipment of the body to Johnstown for interment. A few hours later, when visiting some friends, he had scarcely been seated when his son, hale and hearty, walked in and greeted him, to the astonish ment and joy of the father, who had wept him as dead. It was simply a case of remarkable resemblance. Mrs. Newton, of Scottdale, Penn sylvania, gave proof of the fact that she didn't consider marriage a fail ure by presenting her astonished hus b.nd with four girl babies at one birth on February the T-Jth. The four little ones are flourishing, and are as much alike as four peas. They were baptised last Sunday in the Catholic church of that town, to which the parents, Irish people, be long. China is proud of her antiquity, but she has never discovered the art of mining coal, of which there are extensive deposits there. A Chinese engineer is now in this country studying up mining with a view to teaching his countrymen and start ing the coa China. mining industry in NEW ADVERTISEMENTS. Si ak Ofuce Boy wanted. The entertainmeut to be given on Thursday, Friday and Saturday of next week by the Wilmington Light Infantry is gradually taking shape and form. Part of the programme, as made known, is a fancy drill by the company, a broom drill by a number of little girls, and a tennis drill by young ladies. Besides, there will be some charming music each evening, refreshments of all kinds, an art gallery, a "maze," booths for the sale of articles of all kinds, and a general good time for everybody. The lady friends of the military are taking an active interest in the affair and are working hard to make the entertain ment a great success. A meeting was held yesterday, and the following were named as an Executive Committee and are urgently requested to meet promptly at 11 o'clock to-day at the Company's Armory, for the purpose of perfecting the organization of the different sub committees: Mrs. C. D. Myers, chair man; Mrs. James Sprunt, Mrs. John L. Cantwell, Mrs. W. N. Harriss, Mrs. Chas. H. King, Mrs. C. H. Robinson, Mrs. Henry P. West, Mrs. Gabriel H. Holmes, Mrs. H. H. Smith, Mrs. Thomas Morrison, Mrs. F. Rheins tein, Mrs. J. Carmichael, Mrs. W. R. Kenan. Mrs. W. W. Hodges, Mrs. Josh T. James. Mrs. M. J. Corbett, Mrs. W. T. Daggett, Mrs. Mildred Huggins. Mrs. J. J. Hedrick. Mrs. F. W. E. Peschau, Mrs. H. L. Vollers, Miss Sophia Camp bell. The Clinton Murder Mystery. A special to the Star from Clinton, N. C, giving particulars concerning the assassination of Edwin N. Butler, of Sampson county and the confession of Butler's son, Avery, as it will appear in the Clinton Caucasian, says that Avery refuses to tell why he killed his father or whether he had an accomplice; but sig nificantly remarked, that people will be surprised when the story is told on the witness stand The boy's attorney waived an examination and the lad was lodged in jail. Weather Forecasts. For Virginia, light showers, cooler, southerly winds. The steam yacht Wampanoag put in for a harbor at -Southport yes terday. Swedish brig Pepita, from Port Natal, Africa, arrived at Southport qua rantine yesterday. A flat-boat loaded with lumber, sunk in the river near Princess street dock Tuesday night. Workmen were engaged in raising it yesterday. The lumber belongs to Mr. E. A. Hawes, of Black river. Hon. Charles M. Stedman will give an oyster roast at the Hammocks to-morrow afternoon, complimentary to His Honor Judge Graves, and the mem bers of the bar and officers of the Court have been invited. The funeral of Mr. Jno. T. Burr took place yesterday from St. James Church, the interment being in Oakdale Cemetery. The pall-bearers were Messrs F. L. Huggins, C. D. Myers, Jr., Armand D. Myers, J. M. Wright, B. F. Mitchell Jr., and N. N. Davis. OPERA HOUSE. Tke Concert by G-ermania Cornet Band. The people of Wilmington are a mu sic loving people, and this fact was fully attested at the Opera House last night by the large and critical audience which assembled to hear the Concert of the German Cornet Band. The programme was varied and pleasing, and all the se lections showed most admirable taste. The concert was commenced with an overture, "Brunswick,'.' bv the Germania Band and this was especially enjoyed. No. 2 was a vocal duet by Miss Schwarz and Mr. Horace Emerson. "La Motte" was the piece and it was ren dered in good taste and excellent time. Prof. W. Ortmann, of Charleston, was next introduced and the wonderful and humanlike tones which he pro duced from the violin were rapturously applauded and the audience would not be satisfied until he responded to their enthusiastic encore. He is a thorough master of his instrument and all ac knowledge him an artist of the first de gree. Prof. R. J. Herndon, an old Wilming ton favorite, next appeared, and his cornet solo was delightful, and he re ceived many warm and deserved plaudits. Miss E. C. Adrian's piano solo was magnificent: her touch is most sympa thetic and her phrasing delicate and artistic. The brass quartette, consisting of Messrs. Herndon, Rehder, Gieschen and Rathjen, was loudly applauded. Miss Minnie Schwarz then sang "Invi tation to the Dance," and her pure soprano voice was never shown to bet ter effect, every note being distinctly articulated and exquisitely modulated. The vocal quartette, consisting of Misses Schwarz and DeRosset and Messrs. H. Emerson and A. S. Holden was another striking illustration that our home talent is of no inferior grade but of the highest order. Professors Jules Huguelet and I. H. Greenewald were the piano accompanists and to them both the highest praise was accorded. The Concert was concluded with "Glad iator" by the Germania Cornet Band, and it was a happy ending of a success ful and highly entertaining perform ance. The Band is to be congratulated upon the deserved reputation they gained, and our people should be proud of them, for they are an ornament to any city. SUPERIOR COURT.
