Slaugh ter has received a patent on a bed stay and brace which is said to be one of the most useful inventions of the age. Mr. Slaughter has refused a flattering offer for a one-third interest in it. Montgomery Vidette : James Stuttsand Giles Williamson, accused of feloniously, placing obstructions on the track of the Aberdeen & West End Rail road about one mile from Candor, on last l hursday night, were brought here Monday by officer J. W. Hunsuckerand placed in jail. We learn that the evidence brought out against them in the preliminary trial points strongly to their guilt. We learn through a very reliable source that the owners of the Maratock mine, crhf Hamilton"!, have a cood thin?, and that developments sojfar indicate this as one ot the most voluaDie properties in the Uwharrie gold region. Mr. C. C. Wade, some time since, sent a number of sample specimens of the slate, taken from hjs quarry in Stanly county, to Washington city, for the purpose of ascertaining its true quality and value, and it is pronounced the finest yet discovered in the United States. Gold, silver, iron, coal and brown stone are prominent minerals of this county, so that capital can find safe investment in our borders. No county iu the State can beat us for valuable natural resources. Asheville Citizen: It now be gins to look as if the murder of Mrs. Rhoda Morrison by her husband, Henry T. Morrison, was a story manufactured out of whole cloth. The inforrrfation contained in the circular issued by the Pinion Detective aeencv and offerinp- a reward of $500 for the arrest of Morri son came into the possession of John Murray, of Cane Creek, in the southern part of this county. Murray communi cated the facts to Joe E. Young, who lives near him, and they saw near their home a man answering the description contained in the circular. The was at work for J as. Garren. The two men found him yesterday morning. It turned out tobe Morrison and he was immediately placed under arrest by them. The prisoner was brought to Asheville yesterday and placed in jail. Morrison says he can prove where he and Rhoda have been almost con tinuously since they left here, and that she is now cooking for Mrs. Garren. He says he dicHiot know what the menho arrested him wanted, but says he knew he was innocent of any crime and felt hat he could prove his innocence if he got justice; he was released from jail by order of solicitor carter, a short while after being put in, because of having no charge against him.
