yesterday tbe department turned out.
The fire was located la a one-story frame
dwelling (unoccupied), on Wright street
between Second and Third, owned by
Mr. John Taylor. .The fire communica
ted to too one-story frame dwellings,
and dl three houses in a short time
were a mass of fiimes. which tbe fire
men aaxeeded In sappressing after
more than two boars' work. AH three
houses, the property of Mr. Jao. Taylor,
were Insured.
Several other bouses ia proximity
caught fire, bat the work of the fire
men eared them before any great
amount of damage waa done. Two of
the houses damaged by fire were occu
pied respectively by Tbomas Washing
ton and Waahlngtoa Howe, colored.
Some delay was caused tbe department
by tba alarm being sent la from box 47,
instead of from box 41). Dawson and Sor
ry streets, or box 41S. Kidder's mill.
There is liule doubt bat that the con
fligation was the work ol firebugs. A
colored woman states that she saw a
man run. away from tbe three burned
